As long as you have root, you can install that. Thats the whole point of having a dedicated server isnt it? :)
To have more freedom and not whine onto your host to get them to install certian things ;)

It's really just a case of downloading PHP from www.php.net and MySQL from www.mysql.com and reading the on-line manual. That should get you going and save you $200.

Angel78, you should read their TOS/AUP. Almost anything and everything that is not mentioned in there as ilegal, you can do on your sever.

Small note re: the actual details on their site. It's actually a little confusing and needs updating as far as I can tell.
Just a thought.

PHP and MySQL are pretty easy to compile/install. OTOH, it's not too unrelistic for your host to charge $199 for this server. IT will take one of their technicians time and effort to get them installed, and then reconfigure apache to process PHP. Admins/Technicians are not cheap, and they do have to pay them.
If you fee comfortable with it (or know someone who can help), I would suggest trying to compile/install PHP yourself. There are a lot of options that can be compiled into php. If your host does it, you get what they decide. If you do it, you can add exactly what you want/need.

yes but PHP&MySQL instalation lasts no longer than 20-30 mins even less(and if u charge 199$) that makes around 500$ per hour...i know that they arent cheap(technicians) but 500 per hour cmmon...

I think it makes sense for your admin/tech to do this for you especially if your server is live. I've done php installation on a live server and I know that if your php mod is broken and not compiled correctly, your httpd will simply refuse to restart. Also php install, especially the rpm installation simply modifies the httpd.conf as part of "make install" and undoing the changes it made in httpd.conf requires some understanding of the httpd.conf.
But I guess if you have experience with installations like this especially on a live server, its better not waste money and do it your self. :)
Cheers!!

The more I think about it the more I'm realised that it's more likely that they do a proper test on the whole thing. I mean they are asking you for $199 for the installation so they'd make damned sure it was up and running as required. So th 20-30 mins might actually be closer to 45mins or even and hour.
Personally I'm lucky enough to have my own machine at home to play on so I'd be dry running it on that first but I'd still be nervous on a live machine... *cue: knee knocking*

Just be sure to ask what the cost is to restore the box if you crash the server :D

I gotta admit the thought had crossed my mind... Hence the knee knocking. Ah well, it's years yet.
