Hi, any help out, i now have a dedicated server so last month decided to cancell my Aitcom server2 account.

I have since receved an email from them saying i am on a 6 month contract that does not expire untill october, however i have been with them for over 2 years and do not recall a 6 mont contract being mentioned.

Some pretty F***ing sharp practices going on here...

Get this for a clever setup....

Cancellation Procedures
In order to protect your data, AIT requires a signed document requesting cancellation of virtual server accounts. We apologize for any inconvenience, but experience has demonstrated that this is a necessary precaution to prevent erroneous deletion of data or malicious activity conducted against data. To cancel a virtual server account, please complete, print, sign, and fax the document located at https://www.***********/cancellation.htm. An AIT representative will contact you immediately. The cancellation request is only complete and will be acted upon by AIT once AIT receives the faxed form with your signature. Please do not alter the cancellation form, any changes made without a signature from an authorized signator of AIT Inc. will not be valid. Upon receipt, AIT will cancel your account effective the end of your current billing cycle and notify you of any outstanding balance. If you cancel prior to the end of your initial six month or any subsequent six month term, you must do so prior to the 5th day of the 1st month of the next term. For example, If your initial six month term ends on March 31st your cancellation will be valid as long as it is received prior to the 5th day (April 5th) of the following month, otherwise you have agreed to renew for a subsequent six month term and will be held accountable in accordance with the online agreement. Finally, while AIT will refund your monthly fee if you cancel your account within the first 30 days, AIT will not refund your setup fee.

As far as I can see if you sign up you aren't warned about the 6 month nature of the contract.

Bottom line... I'd avoid them like the plague.

If you say you were with them for more then 6 month to contract expired unless something comes up.
I say if they keep charging you do a charge back. But first read the contract and see what it says.

I'm sure Duster could tell you some nice tales about AIT. I suggest reading up on their TOS and see if anything is stated in there.

With over 2 years with them, he probably has tales of his own. At any rate, he is leaving them so he has already made the right choice and there is nothing for me to say. The only nice tale I have about AIT is that they haven't been my host in over 2 years (since about the time carpman signed up with them). Pretty much everything else is a horror story.

In October of 2000 AIT changed their standard contract to make it a minimum of 6 months. They sent out a notice in their email newsletter stating only that changes had been made.

AIT claims that any change made to your account after that period meant that you agreed to the new contract and that you agreed to CHANGE ALL OF YOUR CONTRACT to the 6 month minimum, not just the new domain or server you added.

I'm currently battling with them over a $700 charge they billed me for on this exact issue.

Call Corey Quintin at their Billing number and let him know what you think about this. If he can't help try Paula Durand.

I had the same story with AIT. It's posted somewhere on this board.
First you should call AIT and try to explain the situation. Hopefully they have got better? Most likeley they'll refuse to refund anything, and you can get some very rude attitude from them. Then change your credit card number on their website - they won't be able to charge you again. Then fill chargeback with your CC company. if there been wrong charge.
goodluck.

I had also played the game with AIT. I wanted to cancel my VS2+ with them, but also got sucked into the 6 month rule. Heck one of the main reasons I went with them in the first place was they did not have any contract. Go figure. I ended up having to pay for 4 or 5 months that I had left.

So what I did was...
I moved all my accounts off of the Server2+ to my new host. Then downgraded my account to a Server 1. Waited a week then canceled my account with them. With the much lower cost I was able to suck up the cost of the VS1 for a few months than the VS2+.

So its not a perfect solution, but in my eyes it was better than attempting to fight. I guess you can use your own judgement on this.

Hope this may help others.
A FORMER ait customer.

Anyway you word it they SUCK!

If I begin to share my experiences wit AIT, Webhostingtalk Forums would have to create a forum dedicated just to my rantings about how bad AIT SUCKS. They are the suckiest sucks that ever did suck! Did I mention they suck?

Treat them like the plague!
