As shown in the title I would like to know what the best dedicated server lease is for the $$. I do not want to pay much more than $129/month. Could somebody please post some past positive experiance with good sites? Let me know by posting or PM's:)

Thanks

Rackshack is excellent. FDC is also very good, on their Cogent line (IRC). I also have a server with Internet Express (www.ixpres.com) and they are good...my machine has a problem with the APCI settings, and it doesn't reboot properly. But they credited me with a few weeks of free hosting even though the downtime was only a matter of hours. Very pro.

here's a list of a few:
www.dedicatednow.com (you can get cheaper through resellers, I know because I'm one)
www.fdcservers.net (offer unmetered for $99 a month)
www.rackshack.net (just great overall)
www.hostany.com (new but has been great so far) << I have had good services with them! Recommended! (I'm also a reseller of them because I love their prices)

ServInt.net - Reed rocks! (They are pricey but other than that its a VERY good dedicated server company, they manage everything.. Something goes wrong, expect an admin to fix it for you in minutes).

eServers.biz = Shazad from eservers.biz is gr8 to work with. Anytime you need help the guy is on ICQ to help. They have the best prices in town! If you go with this company, make sure you get their NOC phone number....

WebReseller.net - Nice host, hardly down, good support.. But costly. They charge you ANYTHING they get a chance to. But other than that thumbs up for them too.

myvirtualnet.net = Server very stable with their company. Only grunt I have with them is that support is not as fast as it can be and sometimes you can't contact them in emmergencies. If things could be faster than this company would be great too.

Pwebtech/DedicatedNow = Uptime has been great (this is: *after the big network downtime event a few months ago*). Support is okay, Jason is on ICQ sometimes to help out if things go majorly wrong. Cheap servers, NO RAID1 configuration. If they offered RAID1, more serious web host could use them. Support is okay because tickets sometimes dont get answered and sometimes adding more RAM can take literally AGES.

I'm trying out ThePlanet soon ;)

Despite the negative posts about fdcservers, i think that fdcservers offers a great deal!

Elements, it's because I applied and they know I can bring in the sales. I've brought them lots of sales in the past.

Rackshack - Currently I am with them. Best prices on servers!

The Planet - After reading about them on here, everyone seems to love them

Atjeu - Was with them for awhile. There prices are not the best but their network and servers are very stable

I am surprised no one mentioned ServePath.

They have great prices and support and a fantastic connection and facilities.

are the companies mentioend here providing managed service or kinda of semi-managed?

I mean do patches, setup firewall by requests and monitor http and MySQL at least actively

I haved used the following, with a positive experience.

RackShack
DedicatedNow
Eservers

I have also used UnitedColo, their support was pretty good, and they were eager to work with me. However the network was pretty bad.

I just signed up for a server with ThePlanet, so we will see how everything works out with them.

I have been with 4webspace.com since May 2001 and have found them to be absolutely amazing. I would recommend them to anyone I still like. I send my enemies to halfpricehosting. :)

I have been with a lot of different hosting companies so far but I have never experienced the great support and customer care as I did with rsmhost (http://www.rsmhost.com).
They are just awesome.

As I see it Dedicated Hosting Providers fall into one of three catagories based on the majority of solutions they offer:

Motel 6 >$300 mo. / Holiday Inn >$999 mo. / Marriot <$1000+

Just match the level of serivce/solution you Require with the corosponding Provider. You should only pay for what you need, but remember that only get what you pay for.

Mark,

You hit the nail on the head there. The number one thing that people forget in this industry is that you get what you pay for. Granted there are the select few $99.00 a month guys out there that do provide excellent service but for the most part those types of providers do offer a below average service to there customers.

My advice to anyone looking to purchase a dedicated server is to find out what are the most important priorities they are looking for.

Is it price? up time? quality of hardware? quality of technical support? ect......

It is different for every single person, do your research, get your priorities straight, and in the end you will be sure to find the provider that was meant for you.

Just my 2 cents.

I've had a couple of servers with webreseller since April 2002, and I consider their "bang for the buck" factor to be well up there. The only time I was ever charged anything over and above my normal monthly fee was once when they had to repair a problem of my own making. They have done quite a bit of other work on my boxes for nothing more than a "thank you".

They're not a bargain-basement provider, but I certainly wouldn't call them costly.

With regards to "bargain bucket" hosts, 4webspace are only costing me about $105 PM, (99 for the server, 6 for the extra IP's) and I must say they are amazingly reliable and helpful.

I don't use my RaQ4 for anything dreadfully demanding, but really 4WS have to be tried to be believed. Pay the extra to get more memory when you start up though... that makes a big difference.

I just had to respond so you know there are some $99 dedicated server providers out there who do an amazing job.

I've heard good things about Power Surge....Their dedicated website is ****************

After doing some research....it seems that they have been spamming lately....hence the *'s

Unluckily I think a employee made a bad choice in posting, seems really strange as he had been around awhile and had to know better. Still my first choice in semi-managed dedicated.

I would suggest thinking about buying your own server from Dell and the just housing in a good datacenter. Can save money that way and get a good server. The stuff you buy from places like Dedicated Now or ThePlanet, are good...but the old deal is you get what you pay for. Just ask any Burst.Net customer.

Thats my 2 Cents....

I recomend DV2, they have great support, great uptime, I did not have any problems with them.

atjeu.com - definately. After over a year with BurstNot, I switched.

In both cases the servers I ordered were setup within 4 hours of payment, and they were set up correctly.

The support tickets I have entered have an average turnaround time of 15 minutes.
