From an advertiser's perspective, I'm wondering about the reporting capabilities of vBulletin. Is WHT able to assess how many of the 34,000+ registered members make regular visits? Can VB spit out numbers like avg page views per visit, total number of unique members who logged in in the last month, etc?

In other words, any stats that might be of value to someone who spends advertising dollars here. Otherwise, it's kind of a shot in the dark not having any numbers to work with...

Also, anyone know what the average clickthrough rate is on top of page banners?

Yes I spoke with her. I'm looking for additional info over and above what she was able to provide.

They would know that, from their banner tracking and delivery platform.

Oh, BTW, click thrus here would not be your only indicator of effectiveness. I believe that the branding aspect of the banners, is/can also be valuable.

It must have some effectiveness. Either that, or the repeat advertisers just like spendin' money. ;)

I agree. There are in fact a lot of "un-measurable" (immeasurable?) effects such as brand recognition. Pretty difficult to work out a CPM for that. But I need to start somewhere. Clickthroughs will not be the most accurate measuring stick, but it's a start...

And it does appear there are a good number of repeat advertisers. A good sign...

AFAIK vBulletin on its own doesn't give the stats you're looking for. You might have to hack it to achieve what you want.

Here Goes:

There are currently 32252 Users in the "Registered" group, this means they arent moderators, arent banned and arent COPPA

Currently: 15584 of the 32252 registered users have VISITED WHT since January 1st 2003

Of the 15584 Users who have visited since January 2003: 12138 have made posts.

So in other words, 12k users are "active", and the rest are simply pretty useless numbers?

Cool. Thanks, XTStrike. Exactly what I was looking for... :gthumb:

of the 12138 users that have made posts since January 2003: 6986 have more than 5 as a post count

(Dont forget advertising forums and the Lounge dont count)

They could be browsers who don't bother to log back in because they have no need to post though.

There is an average or 550 new members signing up per week
The average weekly post count for the forum is: 18,000

I dont have any statistics on "Guests" since that can only be managed with Apache or SQL logs which only the server administrators have access to.

Hopefully this information is useful though.

Yeah, it's good information anyhow.

I think I can help.....

Here are MY stats for two seperate banners that are running here at WHT.

TOP BANNER
Start Date: 5/19/2003
Impressions: 1314
Clicks: 28
Overal rate: 2.13%

BOTTOM BANNER
Start Date: 5/16/2003
Impressions: 2428

Overal rate: 0.29%

Hope thats what you were wanting!

Thanks for sharing, kickmybutt. Although, it would've been better if the # of impressions was a bit higher. You can run through 1-2000 impressions in just an hour or so here at WHT, so I'm sure that a larger sampling might yield more accurate ratios.

Good stuff, XTStrike.

I will email Isabel for any info she has on average clickthrough rate. In my own case, I find it interesting that the clickthrough rate from the WHT Showcase page is almost 8x higher than that of the top banner ads.

vito -

could u please provide a link where or explain what the WHT Showcase page is?

I clicked on the link at the bottom of this forums page http://w3.webhostingtalk.com/advertising/index.asp but it seems I got lost in there somehow.

Thanks.

The showcase ad's are at the top right if you click on Shared, Dedicated etc.

I would also think the showcase ad's would always get a higher click through rate based on the fact that people who click on the links are looking for hosting while the main top and bottom banners get more impressions, but is not as targetted as people looking for Shared, Dedicated or Reseller hosting.

Who in the hell would want to advertise with CPM on a message board? Not I... one person seeing the same ad over and over, holy moley. The only way I can see CPM on forums working, would be if each impression in the 1000 is a unique IP.

Anyway, this is a great place to advertise for web/tech related things, if that is on your mind. I read the ads everytime I visit just to see who is advertising. Some of them I have actually been interested in.

Yes, while the traffic right now for those pages is not that high yet I think as time goes on and WHT gets recognized as a forum and hosting directory rather than just a user forum more traffic will come.

Also the showcase section has only been around 3 or so months if I remember correctly so that would also explain it some.

3 months? That's long.. i'm pretty sure it's less then that.
