Friend needs dedicated box and asked me if I could find some good deals for him, this was put on hold and once again need new rates.

His specs are to include a processor from 800mhz-1ghz, 512+ megs ram, and at least an 18gig SCSI hd with 75 gigs transfer and additional transfer under 3/gig.

He would be willing to put upfront around 750$ in order to get a lower monthly fee.

Please post what you can offer..

Well, I have a nice server for $400 a month with 100 Gigs. Check out this url

http://pwebtech.com/temp/linmore4505.html

This server gives alot of room to grow, the ability to have upto 2 gigs of ram and dual processors if you need it.

Thanks I will run it by but I know he is looking for more of a custom quote to have a host extend a special offer for paying a higher setup fee.

Eagle, cabal: No offense, but did you look at his requirements? He wants a SCSI HDD, and neither of you offer that on your post/webpage.

Ah. I wasn't looking at your site (although I did look at Eagle's), but rather the link you posted to your server special, which wasn't SCSI.

Not a problem, my friend.

I know he wanted SCSI, sometimes you can make someone change there mind, if you give them a good price. SOMETIMES!! :)

I know its not free, but I would venture to say most decent size hosts are getting it at around 1$/gig. The transfer is of course negotiable for initial amount as I believe he only needs around 50gigs to start/mth.

In regards to IDE drives that would be acceptable if they had two of them so one could do databases and the other stats etc.

Bw you have no idea what your talking about.. UUNET you cant get pricing like that from unless the host has OC HUGE lines through them, you might be able to strike up a deal with sprint or something for around that price, but not with a top notch provider.

And you arent figuring in what it costs the host to provide that bandwidth to you, it costs them about 3.00/gig to provide that bandwidth to you after you figure in staffing, hardware, etc..

Believe it or not most good size hosts pay more than that per gig try around 1.5 to 2 because you are missing the costs of the local loop, routers, and other suck things. PURE BANDWIDTH, $1 per gig, yeah maybe, but once you add in another maybe $100 per meg just to get the bandwidth to you, then you are talking more money.

I am not going to have an arguing match I am just saying that is about the rate most large hosts (thats hosts that own their own noc etc) pay that have decent connections of their own. And please dont doubt me as I have two friends whom both work sales in two differnt major backbone companies..

Notice I did say direct companies. Of course if you are colocating in another persons noc you will pay more as they need to make money. I was just using that as an example. And on that figure I also stated he told me he did NOT need a full 75gigs of transfer but might like it if the package came with that much.

And to further illustrate things I dont think what he is asking is out of wack as you could get the following config for about $1250. Take away the 750 he is willing to put up front, and that leaves $500. Divide that over a period of a year and that costs around $45 a month.
The lets say you pay around $2 for bandwith and assume he actually would use all 50 gigs, that is another $100. So adding the two together you would net around $100.00/mth for the first year and another 155$ after then.

You have javascript disabled? If you have it ENABLED, there should be a popup saying that you've got a new PM.

If you want the popup, you should also make sure that it is turned in your profile options. I don't remember if it's on by default, but I don't think so. Also, you can have email notification of PMs on or off.
