View Full Version : looking for a flexible host

Hi, I am looking for a low-cost host who can accomodate flexible requirements which may grow over time.

I have several domains for which I want to grow websites. I would like to start out with just one domain on your package and, if things work out and the service is good, I will want to add more in future.

These are "vanity" type sites for personal interests, not business ones. I usually optimize everything for quick loading, so I doubt that each site will ever take more than 10-20 megs of storage at the most. However, I don't know if they will grow bigger over time, which is why i'm looking for a host that's flexible and will accomodate possible future changes.

I am looking to start out with, say, 100 megs storage, 1 gig bandwidth, and call it "unlimited" domains and subdomains. Practically, it will probably never exceed 10 domain names, and 5-10 subdomains per domain, if that. I'm just calling it unlimited because I don't know where it will grow to (hence the flexible requirement). Plus the usual cgi-bin, SSI, ftp, etc. Don't need streaming anything, don't need SSL or shopping carts. I do want access to raw logfiles and stats. It would be best if your control panel allows me to add subdomains myself, as I might add/delete/change around a lot depending on what i'm designing at the moment.

Email : "unlimited" pop would be nice but i can live with 20-50 per domain :) Again, probably will never use more than 2-5 per, but i'm just being cautious.

The catch is that some of the content on one or two of the domains may be adult in nature. Not hard core, not tasteless, and not pix, more like erotic or romantic fiction (if you email me i can give more detail on this, i don't want to go on too long here). I don't expect much traffic for it as it will be for a specific interest group and it will not be advertised or publicized.

I would like to start with around 100megs/1 gig, and then have the flexibility to add more storage/bandwidth if things grow. Please have good support, preferably 24/7. I don't use support often except in the first week when I am getting used to your system. Most of the time I'm savvy enough to solve my own problems, but I do want to be able to reach someone if something suddenly goes down.

I am hoping for a price that starts around $10 or below per month (you WILL make money off me, coz I don't use much in terms of traffic or storage at all, and if i do, i will be happy to renegotiate and pay more per month O:^) I am a pretty loyal customer and I tend not to move once i'm happy, PLUS i give lots of recommendations to friends when i'm happy.

Please reply to this thread or leave me one of those private message things and i will email you to discuss things further. Sorry for the long post, and TIA! :)

i have received a couple of PMs that indicate my post was misunderstood as saying that i am intending to put porn-type pix on the site. that is a definite NO.

Just to clarify, the "erotic" content is ONLY going to be FICTION ie TEXT.

NO PIX :)

Sorry, i know my original post was kind of long and it probably caused your eyes to glaze over, so i'm not surprised there were misunderstandings :)

Thanks to all who have replied so far, i will be looking into all your recommendations :) Please do keep sending in your suggestions, the more info i have the better!

why don't you go for small plans for each domain ?

The hosting you require would not cost less than 15$ so why don't you go for individual plan for each domain name ?

Check out our HB Lite http://www.hostingbetter.com/hblite.html and HB Pro Package http://www.hostingbetter.com/hbpro.html if you need more features and excellent service for an affordable price.

Just wanted to say Thanks! to all who responded and kindly tolerated my numerous questions :)

I have found a package which seems to be everything i am looking for, and signed up for it today. Hopefully it will continue to be a good experience. The service has been great so far, i was bugging the poor people late last night and they patiently answered all my questions :)

To answer Omair's question - i do in fact already have some domains on that sort of multiple-plan system and on thinking about it, i realized that i am paying for a lot more than i am actually using. A special all-in package where i can put all my domains is definitely going to be cheaper for me in the long run. Thank you for the suggestion, though :)

All in all, I think we have the perfect place for you to host your site(s). Our accounts are divided into very small lots (5mb between 20 and 100mb) for better pricing accuracy and fairness. Our servers are all top-tier and very fast. 20MB accounts start at only $4.95 per month and we offer an exceptional amount of bandwidth.

If you like to give referrals, then your hosting will probably be free for quite some time, as we also have a great 2 (free months) for 1 referral program.

Our current customers just love us for the speed and uptime of our servers AND for the "Johnny on the Spot" support we give.

Please check us out and let me know what you think.

Sincerely,
Joseph at LinkSky
