View Full Version : needed: dedicated server, SCSI, much bandwidth
Walter 07-04-2001, 05:17 PM Needed for a client of mine:
Dedicated Server
Linux (Red Hat preferred)
Dual P3 minimum 866 MHz
1 GB RAM
SCSI harddisk with 36 GB (preferred 2x18 GB 10000upm)
Control panel (preferred WebhostManager/CPanel)
minimum 20 IPs
backup solution for 36GB (e.g. 36 GB IDE drive for backup)
reliable and fast support, no extra costs for reboots
regarding bandwidth:
The server is for a few but quite large sites. My client wants to transfer a "test" site with about 40-50 GB/mo first. Transfer will raise to about 200GB to 300 GB/mo later.
So maybe a deal with monthly costs for 50GB/mo now and the rest in xx$/GB overage? But I am open to every suggestion. What I really need to know is price per GB transfer overage which should not too high!
PM or answer this thread, thanks!

Walter 07-04-2001, 05:52 PM Jay, thanks for your fast answer but he really needs more RAM, at least 1 GB. And how much is additional transfer? 95% percentile or average?
jayglate 07-04-2001, 06:03 PM Do me a favor contact me via icq or AIM at firewoofer
Walter 07-06-2001, 05:59 AM Jay, thanks for your nice offer, will be strongly considered.
But: Is Jay really the only host who can offer a decent dedicated server? :)
Travis 07-06-2001, 06:52 AM He's one of the few. :)
Planet Z 07-06-2001, 10:17 AM I've said it before, and I'll say it again: It's the WHM/CPanel that kills it. It's hard for hosts that don't have a special deal w/ CPanel or get it free to compete with those that do. It adds on $100/mo to our expenses.
cabalstudios 07-06-2001, 02:06 PM Tyan L440GX Server Board
Built on board Intel 10/100 FastEthernet
Built on Cirrus Logic VidePort and SCSI Controller
Intel Pentium III 1Ghz Processor x 2 Units
1GB SDRAM PC133 ECC / Registered
40x IDE CD-ROM Drive / 1.44 MB Floppy Drive
IBM 18GB SCSI U160 10K RPM x 3 Unit
RM0155 2U RackMount Chassis With 300 W PS
16 Static IPs
100GB p/m transfers
Option 1:
$799.95 Monthly - Free Setup - 6 Months Minimum Contract
Option 2:
$479.95 Monthly - $1999.95 Setup - No Minimum Contract
Additional IPs are $1.50 per month per IP.
For Cpanel/WHM add $99 monthly to both packages.
For Ensim add $35 Monthly.
I forgot to add if you are looking to go over the 100GB, we will then need to install a dedicated data stream to the server, as we don't do over 100GB month burstable. For quotes please email me imran@cabalstudios.com.
The reason we don't do over 100gb burstable, is, so that it won't affect other clients, and your own, network performance.

I know that :)
But I have to quote myself: "Control panel (preferred WebhostManager/CPanel)". I didn't say its a must have, preferred only because I am used to it.

I believe we compete well by offering supeior customer service, 24/7 Tech support, and additional features, i.e. processor upgrades, more ram, and ips to help offset the costs of Cpanel/WHM and also we are one of the few hosts besides burst, site5, and others that know how to work with cpanel and provide the necessary support for it.
Isn't support one of the main issues, that most people need, that is what we offer.
JBIZ718 07-06-2001, 05:12 PM Well we dont offer cpanel, if ensim is a option for you, i will bid this
Joe
dawolf 07-07-2001, 03:16 AM Sounds to me like Jay has by far the best deal, the offer he put on the table exceeds the request. And at a very reasonable price.
I for one can vouch for Pegasus' support, which is very responsive and as stated by Travis, they are one of the few who can do such a good deal and fulfill a custom order like yours Walter.
You can't go wrong with Jay and the Pegasus team
Good luck Walter.

I would be happy to give you a quote but would like to recommend the use of our software for admin and control panel functions. . I think you will be very happy with it when compared to the competition. The catch is that the software is not due out for about 4 more weeks. It will be free on all dedicated and co-location clients. If you would like more information please email me admin@jaguarpc.net or ICQ me #205546
