Hey guys,
I'm hoping this is the correct forum as I saw other domain posts here. :)

I'm having a problem with one of my domains. A friend of mine actually registered the domain awhile back, but is going to let me use it. We need to update the DNS servers to get it on the right host.

However, we've got a problem. We were told that the domain was registered by register.com (by aplushosting.com, who my friend says registered the domain), however they have no record of the domain anywhere on their website.

I looked it up at joker.com and found this:

Registrar: TUCOWS, INC.
Whois-Server:whois.opensrs.net

This also was confirmed at the cdomain.com lookup.

However, I went to domaindirect.com, and they also seem to not have any record of this domain.

What I need to figure out is how to get this domain transferred, most likely that will be who the heck is the authorized registrar for this domain?

What domain are you trying to transfer?

Many registrars only show their own whois info in their database. Some registrars will actually quiery other registars to show you the info even if it not registered through them.

If you will tell us the domain you need the info on, we will help you find the info.

Domain servers in listed order:
DARTHMAUL.APLUSHOSTING.COM 216.65.98.130
C3PO.APLUSHOSTING.COM 216.65.98.131

Now, assuming that you control patwarren@hotmail.com (and I hope you or your friend does), this will not be difficult. You can transfer this domain with any registrar. To do so, click on the "transfer domain" link on most registrar's home page. If you need further help doing this, contact me by email.

After rereading your original post, I may have misunderstood you problem. If you simply want to change your listed DNS servers, go to this link:

http://manage.opensrs.net/

Great! Yes, We need to transfer the DNS servers :)

One last thing that makes it more complicated, he lost the password for his domain. :(

I was looking at it, and Opensrs says something this in their FAQ:

The RSP can Email that info to them via "Search Active Domains" on the RSP web interface. If you click on the domain in question, the Email link is at the bottom.

The RSP Web Interface link leads to http://resellers.opensrs.org which requires a user/pass to use.

How to I have them send him his password at patwarren@hotmail.com?

Apparantly, you must get your password and username from your RSP, aplushosting.com. Send an Email to tech@aplushosting.com. If you don't get anywhere quickly with that, I would transfer the domain to another registrar. The downside of transferring your domain to another registrar is it can take up to 7 days.

As a side note, I think it's lame that opensrs doesn't have a click here to have password emailed to you button.

Since your friend is listed as the registrant, he would always be able to get his user name and password directly from Open SRS. If he is unhapppy with register.com, he could stay with Open SRS and have the domain transferred to another of their RSPs, like 000domains.com. It takes a faxed letter of authorization, best on a letterhead.

I did this on behalf of one of my clients so I am speaking from experience. He had 2 domains with an OpenSRS RSP we were not happy with (slow to respond with password, charged $70 for 2 years, and had accpount set up under sub profile) and moved them (at no cost) to 000domains.com.
