A QUOTE from the Dotster Reseller Agreement:

2.7 Reseller shall be responsible for providing SLD customer service for non-English speaking customers. Reseller will, have the option of referring English speaking SLD customers to Dotster for customer service upon prior arrangement with Dotster.

Yes, I noticed though that users cannot access their domains unless specifically going through your sites logon after signing up with you. I was surprised that they couldn't logon at the main site too.

Yes,

I wondered about this too?

I signed up with their reseller program and proceeded to do a current domain transfer through our link.

I went through the entire process and got to a screen that showed in bright red letters, something like "Please note, any further Administrative Contact changes will cost $ 25.00 for your domain"

I went .. Uhh Uhh .. No way man!

Well it created the account name and everything through our link and we can logon from our reseller page. The account shows up in the reseller tools menu as an active account too. If I go to their main site at http://www.dotster.com and try to log on, it doesn't work at all. Doesn't know me there..

Now, either this is because I backed out of it or they just don't synchronize the accounts? Either way, they are not the same right now.

What you said about "bagging the account later" is exactly what I though of too! I wouldn't want these headaches.

I've always had good experiences with Dotster.... until they offered their Instant Reseller program... "An abomination I tell you!"

I recommended their reseller program to a client because it's so turn-key and automated and I thought "Hey, its Dotster. What could possibly go wrong..."

Let me put it this way:

I built the domain name reselling website for my client, he spent some cash and sent a few thousand potential customers to his site... not one sale, but tons of people emailing him with the same Session Timeout error...

Their reseller system uses cookies and Style Sheets to track sessions and site IDs. I experienced the problem myself a few times, but not enough to warrant alarm.

No response to emails... no wait, I actually got one response... "Our servers were down over the weekend, that's why no sales occurred"... they really said that, no joke...

My client transferred in his first domain, they took his cc info, he got a transaction ID for it, but no transaction ever happened in his reseller control panel and it didn't charge his credit card... that's when they responded about the downtime.

Anyway, it was my suggestion so now my client wants his money back... and I can understand why!

Sorry everyone I don't usually rant, but I just needed to get this out.... and hopefully warn others.

On a more constructive note: Does anyone know of a good replacement for Dotsters reseller service?

I really don't want my client to have to can the whole site.

Best Regards

Maybe they just don't speak anything but English. :D

It is a strange item to put in a SLA though. But, I suppose if they thought it was that important, then good for them...

Take care,

Brian
