Signed up at Birst.net.

Rang Sales to confirm receipt of order, credit card validation and setup time.

Got thru to Technical instead, somehow.

"Yes, what else do you want". Grumpy sounding Tech.

Any nice Tech's out there? or do they all hate customers?

They were so damn rude that I just sacked the order.

That's a few hundred less a month for them.

Having techs that aren't friendly is a very fast way to lose customers. Unfortunately, tech support people are often the least cordial of all departments. They feel annoyed that they have to spend time explaining simple things to other people, etc. An attitude like that shows very quickly through email or phone. It is unwise to keep any tech that behaves rudely toward customers, as it will only harm the company itself in the end.

I totally agree.

That's why I like 4webspace.com and colossus.net.

They both treat customers like gold.

Erick Klien! Kudos!

Hello,

To add my comment to this... my experience with tech support at my current web host is slow, but they DO always treat their customers nice.

Our web host provides ICQ support, but they always seem to be really busy, and unless you really specify that you want immediate answer, they reply after about 2 hours. They do always read the messages.

But really, I think that being a tech support at a web host requires some special training, and unless they had that training, they can be grumpy yes ;)

In my book, good support is one the highest priorities for a web host. I used to work for an ISP there were some people in there that didn't know a modem from a motherboard. Techs need to have smarts and they MUST act right when talking to customers.

I highly doubt any of our support reps responded to you in that manner. We are pretty chipper people here...
The only time you may experience a different attitude is if you start cursing at us, or are tootally rude...which in that case we may just hang up on you. If you treat our reps with respect, then you will receive nothing but respect back from them. I am not talking about even expressing stress and unhappiness to our supports reps, that is fully understandable....but cursing at them as soon as they answer the phone will not get you very far. Regardless, we are a nice team of people here...and are very pleasant on the phone...so I am not sure who this "birst.net" company is :-)

Did this customer curse at your reps then to receive such treatment? Or is he just making it up?

Aloha
bad grumpy techs or also techs that do not answer fully
had a bad experieince when I called in to pwebtech
asked if they suported CDONTS on there win2k boxes
the first guy said I do not know you will have to talk to someone else (which was fine as they were most likely unix) so second guy gets on

tech: YEAH ! (like I was bothering him)
do you suport CDONTS on the win2k boxes

tech: NO

pause (waiting for him to tell me what they did support)

me: uh well what do you support

tech: Pause uh brand b ?(didnt say that said actual one but is another kind can not remember which one it was at this second)

pause

me: OK guess you do have any info or url ??

tech: no you will have to go to there website ?

me: do you have the url ?

tech: no you will have to look it up

me: OK thanks no problem can get the info off the site then (realizing at this point suport sucked)

also had 3 emails that never were answered (guess the system was down thought there should be some human check there thogh to catch it incase the system was down)

anyway canceled account and am suposed to get refund so just kinda a bummer Jay was good on phone and icq with me which is sad as someone who does good work adn PR can be pulled down by one within ?

Jay did give me a name to someone a tech but was after all this so oh well just moving on

That was not an advert for 4webspace.com or colossus.net.

I use them and don't do anything with them like reselling their products and services.

I'm just trying to give an example of those who don't basically tell their customers to FOAD.
