Anyone have any experience with US Hosting with:

Verio

Hostpro

Dell Hosting

UUnet / worldcom

A corporate client who is more concerned about reliability and stability of company than monthly cost.

Site includes MySQL dbase and PHP, will require daily updates / overwriting of MySQL database. 5G/mth bandwidth.

Much fun not had with webhosting.com recently. lots of wasted time. My advice... do not touch them with someone elses barge pole !

Any tips about the above companies would be appreciated.

Already ruled out for various reasons: *****, Interland, Pair, webhosting.com, PSINET. wwsi.net

Why not Pair? They have great support and service.

God, I've been with too many hosts.

Two great places, one you mentioned and one no one ever mentions.

1) Verio -- I have space with them and they've always been good to me. They won't hold you hand if you buy just space and bandwidth...they do have managed hosting too I guess. I just pay for speed, not transfer rates.

2) ATT IP services -- probably the best around. They offered managed hosting -- the usually don't deal with the "consumer" end of hosting, but they'll do it. They're pricey but you get to be on a great network with great NOC admins and great support. My friend helps answer some of their support email and he says that every request gets answered within about 5 minutes and solutions within an hour...

Pair we liked (my buddies and I) but our client is doing a D&B on each potential, that ruled them out, they are very small with few employees, client wants to deal with a substantial organisation.

Dont really know why because his last host was that with billions .... of debts :) and is going down the tubes at the moment .. ha ha ...

Thanks for that but cannot use pair despite confidence that they know what they are doing ...

Looking for technical competence, commercial viability, specific requirements listed and responsive support that knows what it is doing.

1) Verio --

Sounds good. they seem Ok from what I can gather.
I like the deal from Hostpro freedom 400x and dell host is doing dedicated for $2,000 pa, which is not that much considering.. (top brand name)

2) ATT IP services -- probably the best around.

I like what you write about support, had not considered ATT, will take a look now.. webhosting.com were allied to PacBel and were awful.. hope ATT are better than that..

I am talking about using them AS your host, not going through someone who uses them. Why have a middleman?

Verio and ATT offer great support -- you just pay a premium for it.

Sorry David I do not understand.
I do not want to work with a middleman or reseller.

Are you saying that Verio and ATT are reselling servers owned by others?

Please expand.

Ok, so there are companies like you listed who sell dedicated servers and whatnot which UTILIZE verio's backbone.

You can also YOURSELF lease some space from Verio or ATT diriectly and PAY them directly as opposed to going through a middleman like _INSERT HOST HERE_. It just depends on your needs. Sometimes a reseller is more cost effective and/or easier.

you can email me or call me if you need more info. davidu@everydns.net is my email.

Who are what is/are dellz?

I was talking about him getting some space at verio and doing it himself. He needs dialup and all sorts of other goodies. Basically, from what he explained to me offlist, he wants a WAN with a website all backended by some databases which require updates.

Totally doable, but would require a host who can "hand-hold" -- I know Acoclear Consulting will do it. Just to let you know, I do sysadmin for them sometimes so I am slightly biased. I am SURE there are others who also do custom solutions.

David we are concentrating on Verio at the moment, Hostpros parent having lost lots of money last quarter ... and the others well prices are all over the place are they not :)

Thanks for your feedback here.
Useful forum, I am sure I will be back.
I love the layout, and functionality, my compliments to the designers.
