dawolf 07-03-2001, 11:24 AM Pegasus www.pwebtech.com (http://) would have to get the nod here. Jay and his staff really have it together, and Jay consistently goes above and beyond for his customes. Pegasus is a solid company one can't go wrong with.

freakysid 07-03-2001, 09:24 PM Hostexp, I just tracerouted to valuablehost.com from Telstra in Canberra. Note that the signal had to travel over 5000km before it even left Australia!
However, I also traceroute from samspade.org and the hops before it got to yipes went through level3 too. Who is providing the connectivity to Yipes? Are the a multiple carrier NOC? If so is Intenseinfo.com using level3 for their bandwidth? I don't know if I have expressed those questions well - I'm not into the jargon :stickout
traceroute to valuablehost.com (66.54.221.131), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets

cbaker17 07-03-2001, 09:41 PM Jbiz and IE intense info do some business with some small company called Web Reseller, they have yipes connectivity, yipes uses uunet and level3 for their IP transit of net traffic...
JBIZ718 07-03-2001, 09:48 PM Currently we have a rack there and some of our own equipment, routers, switches and what not. We lease space like any other colo, but we do have a special deal with them and what not.
We also have our servers there.
Yipes has 5 peering partners though.
I will say that from chicago to our servers we roundtrip at 40ms, and most spots in the USA are under 100ms if not closer to 50ms
Joe
cbaker17 07-03-2001, 09:51 PM Um no yipes does not have 5 peering partners, they use only 2 providers at the most 3 in some markets, so unless your counting what their tier 1 providers peer with the most yipes peers with is 2-3 providers, 90% of their peering is done with UUNET, and Level 3, with Quest thrown in in a couple of markets.
Of course I could be wrong, but this is what ive been told by 4 different people in their company so im pretty sure its right....

I wasn't paying attention to ping times. LOL - not from Australia! Just the route of the US hops.
Thanks for the info.
MCHost-Marc 07-03-2001, 11:13 PM Thanks to everyone. I've got some really great offers ...now the hardest part is deciding which host we will go with :( :stickout :D
Furton 07-04-2001, 10:07 AM I have a server with Intenseinfo and their support is always friendly and very personal, i.e ICQ which I personally think is a very nice touch.
edude 07-04-2001, 10:18 AM Furton i definetly agree, the icq support from intenseinfo is A+. Also freakysid i think charles and jbiz718 have explained it to you :) i'm also from Sydney Australia and nearly everything from our side is :( someone needs to end the telstra monopoly.
Kindest Regards,
ValuableHost

There's also a monopoly here at Malaysia. The internet is most likely being controlled by a sucks company, TMnet. Most other ISPs are offering the services, based on their infrastructure and lines.
edude 07-04-2001, 11:16 AM Yes, agreed, an monopoly really DOES suck!, due to the fact that the company in monopoly can control the service and offer an horrible service but there is no competition so it has nothing to worry about.

dawolf 07-04-2001, 11:29 AM Pegasus (http://www.pwebtech.com) uses ICQ too and AIM. But my preference is on the phone. I like to hear someone on the other line. They are always friendly and very supportive.
MCHost-Marc 07-04-2001, 12:39 PM We used to have a monopoly of Shaw@Home a little more than a year ago. Since they were the only company in Western Canada providing high speed connections, they charged $100 per GB if you exceeded 1GB of transfer. But now there's Telus ADSL ...and also a few smaller high speed companies :stickout :D
But nowadays, DoCoMo is coming in with their division NTT to the industry. Hopefully, they will break the monopoly. :D
