determinist 07-02-2001, 05:30 PM Ram prices are dropping madly, just got 2x Kingston 256MB PC133 at around $33 each..
Here's another deal... (http://www.bestcompdeals.com/WebStore/Shopping.htm)

They have CHEAP ram, plus free 2nd day shipping.
JeremyL 07-02-2001, 07:50 PM Crucial sucks the big fat one. I will never use them again.
They sent me a stick of ram that will not work because it was double the size of normal sticks and would not fit in the small spcae of the 1U I have. So I called to get it replaced. Well this was a nightmare. 1 person did not complete the order as they said they would, another would not help me because it was time for her to get off. And when I finally did get the second stick, it was identical to the first and cannot be used. When calling about this one, I am told that if it doesn't work, then they don't have anything that will. I think I'll stick to buying from stores where I can see what Im gettin.
Aloha
well Micron is some of the best memory you can buy
also Mushkin is very good
they have very good cas2 deals if you know what you are doing with puters good memory will make a box more stable so do not skimp on memory
it is to bad you had a bad deal with memory did you tell em it is going in a 1u case when you got it ???
just find it odd it did not fit was it ECC registered or not ?? just curious
cbaker17 07-02-2001, 10:22 PM If i remember correctly crucial is owned by micron
joe52 07-02-2001, 10:27 PM You are correct. According to their web site, Crucial is a "division of Micron." I have bought from them once and had a very good experience.

Yes I told them exactly what it was for when I ordered the second stick and the first stick was ordered by their menus which go by what model server it is.
The people on the other side of the phone there are just idiots if you ask me. I tell them exactly what is wrong with the first stick and they send me the exact same thing again.
I could have technically used the ram since the pin # was right, but the damn thing was so wide (36 chips with the sticks double stacked on each side instead of the normal 18 chips) that the 2 sticks of ram were pushing up against each other (big time, not just a little) and that is not something I am going to leave as it.
And of course they tell me when I call back after all this, that is that doesn't work, none of their ram will. Sounds more like someone doesn't want to do the work to find out why they are shipping out the wrong part for my server type.
Travis 07-03-2001, 02:32 AM That's ironic... I've had the completely opposite experience with Crucial.
First, as has been said above, Micron RAM is top-quality. I've never, EVER had a problem with it. It's in every single one of my servers.
I needed some RAM for a Cisco router a while back. It's a newer model that's not in their database. So, I called them up, and the sales rep transferred me to tech support. The OEM RAM is Micron, so the tech. had me read off the identification numbers from the chips on the module. He found the correct part, gave me the part number, and I was on my merry way.
The kicker is, the module would have cost at least $250 from any other vendor. I paid $38.99!
I won't buy from anybody else when it comes to RAM. (Of course, it helps that Micron RAM is made about three miles from me. :) )
Aloha.
Jeremy
yeah bummer sounds like you got a lazy a$$ that did nto want to help you Crucial is really good
dont ya hate that when ya get some moron though that is at the other end of the phone
I know that some companies hire these people for cheap and have em read out of a book
to me these phone people ar elike
Yeah man I got this phone job so now I can quit McDonalds
cool man its some kind of computer company or something
not trying to piss on McD workers just kinda stating where some of em must come from
ECC memory has modules on both sides, non-ECC doesn't, maybe that was your problem.
Get-Hosted.com 07-03-2001, 03:07 AM Isolated problem, that will rarely happen. Very good ram, and good company.
JeremyL 07-03-2001, 03:14 AM I hope thats all it was
