CyberPowerInc is offering a crazy sale for US Independance Day. Visit here:

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/indayspec.html

Now the only question remaining is how I would explain _another_ computer purchase to my wife right now...

Enjoy,

Brian

I know, but for the last few moments of my life, I'd be very happy playing Unreal Tournament with my new PC. :D

Of course, I could sell the one of the PC's I have now on eBay - that would cover about 1/2 the cost of this one... If we weren't buying a new house right now, it wouldn't even be an issue.

Oh well, I guess I will have to suffer with 700mhz for now...

Take care,

Brian

Poor you. :stickout

I'm still using a 450mhz and see no reason to upgrade.

You need a reason to upgrade? :)

Actually, I use my laptop by far the most, and I would be better served by upgrading that (700mhz/192 RAM) than I would my desktop. Now if I could only get a 1.4ghz Athlon laptop with 512MB RAM for under $1000...

Now that I think of it, does anyone make Laptops with AMD processors other than the K6-2? I don't think I've ever seen one in CompUSA or the other local stores.

Take care,

Brian

Don't complain, I use a dual p90..... but it works very well.

I have ordered from Cyberpower Inc before. There support is terrible. That little "Live Chat" at the bottom of their home page NEVER works. Try calling them. Every time I called them I got a person who could barely speak english.

Plus when I ordered I never got a shipping email.

Try playing Black & White on that 450 mhz computer and THEN you'll find a reason to complain after a couple hours after running it (which with the speed it was going, took that long for the intro). Looking into a laptop right now myself. Already have the parts for a 1.33 ghz V-Machine (my brand. hehe). Just have to stop being lazy (dang heat!) and put it all together. Anyone have some suggestions for a notebook $2k and below? The dells and sonys are looking good to me... gotta have win2k on it though. :)

I have Black & White..and can't even run the stupid thing before my processer is 333mhz... and it needs a min or 350mhz...

it just freezes at the start screen...

I really need to upgrade...

Or spend the extra money on bubble bath, flowers, candy and then make a huge night of it (fancy dinner, etc...). And remind her you can afford to do so because of the absolutely fabulous one of a kind deal you got! (well, maybe wait the next day to say that instead of getting a nice red handprint outline on the face)

I suggest a Dell Inspiron. The prices right now are awesome. I have an order in for the following laptop and am patiently waiting to get it:

Dell Inspiron 8000
Intel Pentium III 700MHz Processor
15.0" Super XGA + TFT LCD Display
256MB RAM Memory
10GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
8x DVD-ROM Drive
32MB DDR 4x AGP nVidia GeForce2 Video Card
Internal 56K V.90 Fax Modem

...It comes with Windows ME but I think you can get Win2000 on it since a friend of mine just got the same laptop and had it with Win2000. All this for $1847.00.

I looked at Sony, Toshiba, and WinBook (not that bad) and all three were higher priced before getting halfway down that list.

I was looking at the inspiron. Hope dell has a better independence day sale. I don't like how they've specified which states don't count for the care program thing. I mean, it's nice to know, I just don't like the fact that my state doesn't have it. My dad had a little experience with dell where his laptop broke, so he sent it back in, then the laptop broke for the same reason 1 day after warranty, they wouldn't fix it... so he called up one of the head guys requesting a replacement since they hadn't fixed the problem in the first pl ace. Not only did the guy refuse it, he hung up on my dad. That was a few thousand notebooks dell no longer will be selling to the company.

Still, someone eventually has a bad experience with a company. I haven't checked them off my list. I'm just more attracted to the sonys. I'm easily attracted by sparkly objects. One of the reasons I must avoid Las Vegas the rest of my life (the other being my lungs can't handle 3 seconds in one of the casinos).

If I weren't spending most of my money on the laptop, I'd buy one of those. *sobs* Off to go put the computer together. I finally found the drill to make the holes in the fans screw friendly.

Ain't that the truth! I can't even begin to think how many gimmicky things I've bought in my life because they were shiny and pretty. :)

Thankfully I have a fiance that the sentence "I bought it because it was shiny" *actually* works on. She's as bad as me when it comes to things like that :D

I HIGHLY recommend you build your own computer. You can get it for MUCH less, and it is a better computer, because you won't get any cheap parts that aren't selling points. This is a good deal if it comes with teh monitor though, don't think it can be beat with the monitor.

I also recommend if you get this you get the Abit KT7A-Raid. Also note this comes with a cheapo HDD, and video card.

Now that I think about it, I'll price a system comparable to this, and see if I can beat the price. Everything on it is very cheap.

The mobo in that machine is a great board. I built my friend a Duron rig using an AZZA and it never crashes.

I just priced out the same system without a monitor and OS and came to around $900. Granted, the quality of the parts may be better... but still, $1000 for that systems seems to be a good buy.
