Good evening,

has anyone else experienced problems with "up2date" recently?
Since 1 week, i constantly get an error message, which tells me that access for Demo Users is currently disabled, due to high load.

see:

"Error Message:
Demo service for server ******
limited due to high load
Error Class Code: 51
Error Class Info:
Demo service currently disabled due to high load. If you would like
to see Red Hat's policies on Demo service, or find out how you can
purchase a subscription service and receive priority download access,
please go to
http://rhn.redhat.com/preview/index.pxt"

Great.... but i don't want to subscribe! it used to work without any problems in the past, but now, as said, since 1 week there's no chance anymore. Do they want all the Users to subscribe for RHN, or do they really have such a high load since 1 week?!
I mean without RHN, Red Hat's update strategy would be a total mess... everything would have to be updated via "foot" again... every single step, like searching for the right RPM's... downloading them, installing, then searching for the dependancy packages etc. etc.
This would really suck!

Alright... 'nuf said. I hope you got my point... and the question is:
Has anyone else experienced the same problems?

I think that it is because you only have the demo account, which part of the agreement of not paying them, is that during a time when there are a lot of updates being grabbed, paying customers have priority over non paying ones.

Also, there have been a lot of update emails sent out lately, hence the error message you are getting when doing your update.

All I can say is that they are providing a value added service. A basic entitlement is only $60 a year. Well worth that amount to be kept informed of updates and to have a place to easily download them. I have several entitlements with them, and I expect to receive priority over the free users.

I agree. Paying $5 per month to keep a box upto date is nothing compared to how much it would cost you to have to redo the full box and set it back up if it were comprimised.

can you add more then one server to a Demo account?

I believe you can. But generally, up2date gives priority to paying customers (like me :) ) and trust me, it's worth that $60. It's not much money really.

You can add many servers to your account, and share the entitlement.

well I guess 5$/server isn't that much, ahm stupid question if I prepay now (12 months) and EOL for 7.3 is 12.2003, what happends then (or do we all have to wait and see?)

When was EOL for 7.2? Those updates still come down fine.

7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 8.0 = 12.2003 ( but i think (hope) that they'll re-think that)

you don't really have to migrate. But then you will have to keep on of all the software you use and manually patch them.

You can add them, but you can only use one per Demo account. You have to pay to be able to use multiple servers on a single account.
