Hi,

I've been researching a few hosts that provide vps/vds services, and so far Fluidhosting.com is looking pretty good.

Just thought I'd see if other's here agreed. Has anyone had any real experience with them, especialy with their vps solutions?

thanks!

My site is hosted at FH since March 2002 and I am very happy with them. [shared hosting]

DealExpert, thanks for the response;

Is there anything in particular about them that makes you happy? Have you had any experience(s) with their support system?

thanks again!

I like the fact that I get a support response within a few minutes. Also, uptime and speed are great so there is not much to worry about. I had no reason to move to yet another Web host for about 14 months now. :)

DealExpert, I see you've been pushing Fluidhosting since March 02 shortly after you signed up with them. This is one of the few times I seen that kind of consistancy over that length of time on this board. Good job by fluidhosting. Fluid hosting prices look to be in a good range and they have over two years stability. I would say they are a pretty good bet.

Very true - 14 months is a long time in hosting years.

I've been with Mediatemple for the last 2 years [+/- ?], and while they have generally been very good with regards to support and line-quality, their prices are quite high, especially their vps packages and their dedicated server package.

I'd be very interested to hear more comments regarding Fluid, esp. vps/vds users.

From what I've been able to find on this forum, Fluidhosting.com seems to be generally well regarded, but at the same time there is very little info/detail about them?

I also get the impression that of the people who frequent this forum, few have hosted with or are hosting with Fluid (?)

Not sure how I should take that ..

As an addendum to the original topic, are there many vps/vds users in general on this forum? I'd be interested to here about their experiences, with or without Fluidhosting.com.

I think a big reason is because there are rarely any problems. I guess that's a good thing for your customers, but I can't help but keep wondering if a little downtime here and there would arouse some of our sleeping WHT clients and get some nice PR going. :)

You usually only hear about companies when there is something wrong, unfortunately.

I know Dave and Jim @ Fluid from frequent IRC convos -- top notch fellas. I even have a VPS from them. Can't say I like the fact that it's Red Hat, but it seems to always be up when I need it.

Allera, thanks for your insight. Which vps package are you on? I'm really interested in a few aspects of their vps:

1/ speed/performance
2/ ease of update/upgrade of software components such as php, apache, etc.

I understand they are using ***********/Virtuozzo; my only experience with vps has been with Ensim, and updating components such as php/mysql etc. would often break the control panel, so Mediatemple support would discourage updating, even though they clearly advertise upgradeability as a hi-point on their website

I'm on the basic one. I forget by now. I don't use a control panel for my VPS (I'm a command-line ninja). So whenever I need to update something, I do it manually. Very easy (for me) to do. The only time I use the CP is for rebooting the VPS; and that works fine too.

As for speed and performance, I've never had a problem so I'd say both are fine. I haven't pushed it to any limits either. It works for what I need (basic site with some static pages and a quiet forum).

Well, i am impressed with their systems, support and services. They are our reccomendation for folks looking for Windows hosting (as we do not provide that). :D

I'm on shared with fluidhosting for about 1 1/2 months now... they are alright. Great support, great uptime. I can't complain.

I think it is true about hosting companies, you will hear info when they suck really bad... or have a lot of downtime. If you look around, a lot of people come here to find a host then leave never to return until something happens and the new host they got from this board sucks! Then they start over, looking for another host, on this board.

I came to this board to look for a great host a while back and visit every day (just about).

Anyway, FH is a solid bet, I believe. Before I came to them I heard nothing but positive things about them on this board... and that is VERY rare.

My last host got mixed reviews from this board... but I went with them anyway. I should have listened to the people who said "no, don't do it".

fluidhosting are a fantastic hosting company, my experiences with them have been excellent.
Jim and Dave keep things running very smoothly there and communicate very well with their customers.
The one noticable thing from my experiences with FH is the speed of their servers. WOW.
I think that has to do with them being situated in a InterNap data center.

Good outfit, great support, little down time and honest people.
Enough said!
