I was talking to someone from WHT today and they were surprised to know I was female. Are there not many females in the Web Hosting community or something?? I have only heard of about 50-60 companies but I never know who is running them. Any thoughts on why they were surprised to know I was female??

There are some on this forum but not a lot. The few that I know of are very good, Annette from HostingMatters.com is one of the best hosts anywhere.

I think the only way for members to actually KNOW u are female is if your name is definitely a female name...
Ive sure had some fun with mine over the years. I finally added She-Geek so people wont be SHOCKED! :D
Its just assumed that Martie is a guy.
Theres quite a few gals in the industry but not nearly enough of us! I know there are some old threads about this too..if I have time I will try and dig them up.
heres one old thread:

Oh ok, it wasn't that he thought I was a guy.. just surprised to find out I wasn't. I also don't enjoy telling people my age because they think I can't run a business. When I can change my custom status I might. I might try to look up some old threads about it now :)

There are females in the hosting industry; but people tend to assume that if someone's involved in the IT industry in any way shape or form, even very tangentally, they assume that it's a male.
There are many females who post on WHT: Annette, susanna, Deb, Martie, myself, Reptilian Feline, and the list goes on. And WHT is only a small percentage of the hosting industry.
Welcome in, and best of luck!
