Hey guys, I have a question about some servers i will be purchaseing. The company gives me an option of not having a CDROM and Floppy installed in the box. My question is how do i deploy RH 7.3 images to the boxes. Is there a program or something that does this.

Thanks in Advance.

ftp or http?

I wouldn't go for a system without at list a floppy disk. What happens if your system crushes and you need to boot it from a floppy, for examle when you forgot the root password, or when lilo fails to load properly.

you guys need to see how the rest of the non-home-user lives and works! no floppy disk is the norm !

well thats stupid. It's like going out to sea without a life jacket, true it's annoying to wear it but it might save your life incase you fall over board.

Thanks for the responses, but RCS has a point, but i notice rackshack and those guys don't use floppies or cdroms either. I wonder what they do?

They probably can plug in a portable one when they need it, just like the monitors. All the boxes don't have a monitor either. In data centers, they just plug them in when needed. So not every box needs to have one. The truth is, it is seldom needed if at all.

Great responses thanks. Well the front of the new servers have USB etc, so i can plug in portable cdroms, etc.

most people use trivial ftp and reverse arp instead of cdroms or floppies, and install images onto the disks

then you can use dumb terminals plugged into a serial port to debug any problems
