I am planning on running a Windows based web server out of my house. I have a static IP address, I also have many computers that i want internet access on also, so I'll have to obviously network my computers. My computers excluding the web server are already networked with a broadband router. Will a regular network switch just work to network the computers, and give internet access to everyone, or will I have to use the router? If not, how can I use the router and the switch in conjunction with one another to have every computer networked, including the server, with internet access? Thanks.

Your post is a little confusingly worded, let me see if I can sum this up correctly

You are connected to the internet via a broadband router
This router has ports for multiple computers
You may connect more than one PC to the internet via your ISPs AUP/TOS

Can you confirm those three please?

Ok! have a quick scan through my network guide here (http://forums.far2cool.com/topic.aspx?PID=383946&DNO=14), set your network up so all PCs can ping each other etc and report back here :)

Thanks

I am sort of in the same boat... I am looking to set up a web server to host internet sites I design. I am fairly new to all this, I understand networking, datarates, bandwidth, etc. but I have never set up a server to host web sites and was wondering what I would need run to my house. Such as the following

T1 or better
special software
router or switch

Also I was wondering about the server I intend to build. Is there anything particular that I should invest in.

I am not looking to jump into it real big, but just getting started in the business of Hosting. I am starting off with about 5 web sites (1 real estate site, 1 contract home builder, 2 general businesses, and my own business.

Currently this is what I have.
XP2100
120G HD
512 DDR Memory
Cable Modem

My main concerns are just what I need to have to my house in order to support the traffic and any special software I need to get everything hosted onto the internet?

Thanks for any help you could provide.
Aaron
