View Full Version : What Email Program Do You Use?

What email program do you guys use. I have been using Outlook Express mostly. However there are a lot of things I do not like about it. One being that I can not seem to turn off HTML. Every time I get an email with HTML it automatically loads no matter what. Plus it seems to crash very often.

Can anyone recommend a good email program to me?

I've been using Eudora since 1995. I'm not a great fan of M$ at all so I never used Outlook Express but I was forced to install it to know how it work in order to answer questions on some of my clients.

BTW Outlook should be renamed Lookout. :D

I've been using The Bat! (http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/index.html) since someone recommended it here on this board. I've tried Outlook, Netscape Mail, Eudora, etc.. This one is by far the best email program I've ever used. Worth a look.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I used "The Bat" in the past a bit. I think I will take another look.

Zolbian, how does the different licenses affect the program. For example the single user Student, Private and Business. What's the difference it make? What license did you get?

Mivo,

I don't think they change the program in any way. They are just for different people. You would expect a student licsence to be cheaper than a business one.

David, if they don't change the program in any way, will people would then be too honest to tell their real status and pay more?

I've learned this from somewhere: one of the four defects of a human being is the propensity to cheat others. :D

I was wondering if TheBat could handle multiple POP mailbox like OE?

Mivo,

I agree. A lot of people will probably try to get the cheapest CD key. They should make people show proof of their status. For example if a student, make them fax in a student ID or something. There are a lot of online stores that sell educational programs like MS products, dreamweaver, etc... They are highly discounted but require proof of student status. The programs are the same. When I went to college I could buy MS Windows, Office, etc... for 5.00 per CD.

The Bat does support multiple POP accounts.

I use good old Pine 4.33. :)

But I assume you are looking for a Windows based mailer, right? :)

i used Outlook Express for 5 yrs but it started to choke with 147,000+ emails stored in 2,500 folders

now i use Eudora (latest version) and only crashes a few times a month :)

I don't like Eudora! I hate the fact that you have to double click to open folders and view emails. I also hate the fact that everything opens in a new window.

The Bat!: :agree: :agree: :agree:

Eudora: :disagree: :disagree: :disagree:

Gnus is probably the email-software with the most features available today!

It works great - it's fast - it stores an almost unlimited amount of mails - it can be extended with "plug-ins" easily.

And better yet: It's free

And it can be accessed by remote if you are away from your computer.

Pine for life! Windows users and their bulky GUI mail programs...

I'd use Pine, but I don't have a shell account on my ISP's other file server. Since my account is one of the few, stuck on it.

Hehe, I would, but I run RedHat on my home machine. That way I can leave it on for three months straight without needing a reboot. :)
