I've had it with the Happy DreamHost employees, and I would love some opinions on a good hosting company to transfer my small site to.

my current plan is about 120/year
for 60mb storage (their crazy domain insane package)
my requirements are going to increase to a package that allows about 120 mb of storage, several subdomains, and more than one site/domain hosted in one account.

i'm looking for :

---a company that has at LEAST live chat available with their tech support. and a reputation for service.

-- that has a usable/navigable web panel and login process.

---that allows subdomains and is scalable without hassle as one grows.

--that is mac-friendly.

--that has a helpful FAQ site for folks who may not be code experts.

i read that site5 is great.

thanks for any comments/suggestions.

in case you're curious why i'll never recommend or use dreamhost again:

i'm not a code expert, but i run a tiny design and ad agency, whose clients are always asking for help with whom to use to host their sites we design.

dreamhost has horrible service and does not answer questions completely, causing you to resubmit questions to get an answer. often times you never hear a response. ever.

they are user-unfriendly: everyone knows us village idiots can get lots of info from a FAQ section. theirs is unorganized, a mess, and factually incorrect in many areas.

Try posting in the advertising forum. You will get a lot more replys. Hosts are not allowed to post offers in this forum.

Doesn't sound like he asked for offers from hosting companies. Please read the threads David.

Sorry I mistook OPINIONS as OFFERS.

I'll try to be more careful next time:)

sorry to hear about your troubles with dreamhost bully28. I have heard mixed reviews of them, but you finally put the nail to it :D

think everyone has had his/her share of bad hosts...

icom.com is crap
catalog.com is the worest
hostrocket.com bad sometimes..good mostly

i recommend:

http://www.netcoz.com
http://www.rackspace.com
http://www.innerhost.com

I do not know if Wizardshosting matches all of your requirements but I can highly recommend them. Many features, reasonable prices, good speed and good servers.

Example of service:

Submitted a trouble ticket last night (Sunday) to have a new domain pointer setup. Took them less than 15 minutes to get the job done.

Drop them a mail and ask them your questions.

Good luck finding a new host!

thanks for the replies. after reading through some other threads, i've signed up with aletia. i'd read nothing but great things about them, so here goes.

sign up was simple, so i'll post again later to inform on how well the transfer works.

i said i would re=post my experiences after switching to aletia, so here it is:

they rock!

i get replies to emails within minutes, not hours. i can talk to them realtime with easy to use AIM or ICQ (no annoying java chat)

they are friendly

panel is easy to use

cost is really competitive

no downtimes whatsoever

so there ya have it. a disclaimer: i'm not an engineer, i'm a freelance designer. but i think these guys know their stuff and folks from every level and discipline would find them pretty darn good.

good luck!
