hi guys,

I like this board. The search is very fast. Can you tell me how much it cost? I would like to get one for my site. :-0)

The cost is $85 for 1 year license or $169 For the full license.
You can get it in http://www.vbulletin.com

If you're on a budget, you can check out phpBB. It's open source and free.

Also another free message board that looks like the vbulletin is YaBB. (Yet another Bulletin Board)

i think YaBB's the best out there. Open source kicks ass. All you need is perl and cgi support. :D

You might want to be carefull if your on shared hosting. Using Yabb and phpBB are a bit CPU intensive. Ikonboard is generally accepted, but you may want to wait for the new version 3 to pop out of beta. And its free.

I'd agree that YaBB can be resource intensive. It's perl/flat file. OTOH, phpBB is php and mysql. The development team has spent a lot of time tuning the queries.

I agree with frank! The newer version of phpBB "1.4" has had it's dbase heavily optimized and I would seriously doubt it would be any more resource intensive than running a vBulletin. IB eats resources like a hungry pig. I checked their test board and each page was having to load an average of 40-60k. vB and phpBB by comparison loads 5-10k per page and the code can be gzipped making it even faster! If you're using a modem on a heavy IB site, its terribly frustrating waiting for each page to to load....

Hello

I have phpBB on one of my unix sites. It's free and very easy to install.

I am not sure but I think it uses a little much CPU time!!
Is it ??

By the way I have used "snitz" forum on windows platforms. It is a free board very similar to vbulletin.
