I don't know if it directly affects many of the smaller hosting companies here or their clients, but I still find this article about Exodus pretty shocking:

hehe.. I new that one coming sooner or later ... They lost about half of their customers in OC2 facility. Then they built another facility in El Segundo named ES2 .. few weeks before completion date, almost about half of their customers who colocate in ES1 .. went out of business or moved out.

Pretty scary ..

financial situation aside, i don't think you have to worry about exodus turning out the lights anytime soon.

there'll be another company that'll pick up the slack and the clients; even if exodus corporate does go under.

I spent about four hours yesterday at Exodus's NOC up in Irvine doing some security work and setting up some machines -- the place is about the size of three football fields, maybe more -- and almost all empty.

One way to fill their colo's would be to just drop their prices...there fixed costs shouldnt' affect their montly pricing and so they should be getting more income since they supposedly own their own fiber net.

All I know I had to browse cisco's web page while I was there and it took me 20 minutes to find a noc tech who was willing to print the damn page for me. ;-)

They will probably be bought out, their 5-6 big datacenters are costing them a lot of money each month in upkeep and if they don't fill it up... they'll probably find a buyer real quick!
