I have a clan, and also will have a clan network soon. We will need a few dedicated game servers, and I thought I would ask if any of you host companies offer such a deal? If you do, please respond so I can ping your site to get an idea for pings. We are looking for servers that we ping less than 50ms to. I live in Overland Park, KS...and I am connected with a 2.4mbps roadrunner cable line.

Thanks,
-Reb

From what I can remember, you aren't a host but it would be better to contact them via the board than post all of your info for every email harvesting spider and spammer to suck up.

well what kind of game server you looking at. there's a company that runs CS and half life servers. they say they plan to add tribes 2, UT and Q3 soon as well...

check it out at http://griffinrun.com/

prices aren't bad considering the kind of bandwidth a game server can use...

We ping hoorible to them for some reason. =( Like a 120+ms which is not exactly the ping we are looking for.

I get about 35ms to griffinrun.com. I find this interesting only in that in their market there may be a greater need for NOCs in multiple locations. I had my web site hosted in California for a year on a server that usually had a ping from my of <150ms. It never really bothered me much for web hosting, but the difference between a 30ms ping and a 150ms ping is much more of an issue.

http://www.actionblaster.com/ also has game server rentals. I've never dealt with them. Has anyone else out there used their servers?

http://www.pwnz.net - they're a customer of ours... :)

At the moment though, their website, which we do not host, appears to be down. Not sure why.

Out of curiousity, how much bandwidth would a gaming server, running one game of, let's say Quake 3 with upto 8 players consume in a month?

Thanks

a half life (and similar mods) take about 100 gigs/mo with 32 users, so its a pretty hefty amount.
