View Full Version : Looking for a stable "up-to-date" web host.
phpbin 05-12-2003, 12:59 AM I am looking for a web host to host 1 domain and point 2 domains to directories on that domain. It would be great if I didn't have to spend more then $10/month on this account.
When I say "up-to-date", I mean using the latest in technology such as the latest version of PHP and MySQL. The latest "stable" release that is. I would also need options such as GD support, IMAP support, etc. with PHP. If you know of a host that could help me please let me know. I would like to find one within a couple days or so.
addvalue 05-12-2003, 01:09 AM Why not post this with a bit more information on webspace and bandwidth usuage with your "latest version" of requirement at the Request Forum?
That will be much more effective.
Regards
Douglas
anon-e-mouse 05-12-2003, 01:17 AM Douglas, I think he wants recommendations. He is more likely to get a "stable" host that way ;)
phpbin 05-12-2003, 01:26 AM Recommendations would be much more helpful. I have been developing websites since 1995 and have been with many web hosts. These days there seems to be millions of them and 3/4 of those hosts are run by kids with little experience. I am looking for a solid company that has a knowledgable staff.
Lets just say I'm a programmer and don't want to worry about network problems. Especially if the problem doesn't get resolved right away.
Thanks guys!
sitekeeper 05-12-2003, 01:40 AM I can HIGHLY recommend http://www.spenix.com I have been with them for about 10 months now....
Matt keeps everything up to date and offers GD support, IMAP support.
phpbin 05-12-2003, 02:30 AM That looks promising. I need to choose a place within 2 hours from now.

The main thing is to do a lot of research before signing up, be sure to do a search on this board and google.

anon-e-mouse 05-12-2003, 03:10 AM With any provider you are considering, ask to see a phpinfo and a perldiver or similar type page, where you can check off the server side environment, to make sure it meets your pre-requisites.
I would recommend checking out:
www.enhancedhost.com (personal recommendation)
www.myacen.com
www.iminteractive.net
www.httpme.com
All have been around quite a while and are popular stable hosts :)
phpbin 05-12-2003, 03:41 AM Thank you anon-e-mouse. Your recommendations have been the best so far. I definately want a host that has experience. I owned a hosting company for 2+ years and that is why I am being very picky. I have been searching these forums for approx. 2 weeks straight just to pick the right host. I want a host that I can grow with. Don't want to keep moving around due to problems.
Note to all: Keep those recommendations coming.
Xybre 05-12-2003, 06:34 AM I highly reccomend http://www.lipweb.net
i've been with it for about 4 months now, it offers everything i need (or want), reall fast, never seem to have a slow connection, it's also only been down once (for a few hours) for a kernel upgrade.. Best of all, the support is amazing!
tmac01 05-12-2003, 02:49 PM I highly reccomend www.onyxlight.com
i've been with it for about 5 months now, it offers everything really fast, plus I've never had one minute of downtime in 5 months. From what they tell me they have a 100 Mbit line plus a T1 as a backup. Not sure but whatever they use its blazin. Im 100 % happy.
Cirtex 05-12-2003, 02:58 PM Xybre and tmac01, if you recommend a host, can you post the URL you have hosted with them?
I recommend HostGator, been with them before and they were great, + it will take a lot of hardwork to find any bad posts about them :D
http://www.lipweb.net/ ?? SUpport and COntact, only PerlBill and a Form? ...thats not very helpful ;)
tmac01 05-12-2003, 03:04 PM This is who I recommend. They run off a 100 Mbit line and are extremely fast. Plus they will give you 2 free months to switch over. They did for me 5 months ago plus my friend just switched to them and they did the same for him.
Check em out
