View Full Version : Dedicated Now vs. Rackshack
qubefactor 05-11-2003, 10:14 AM Which would you guys prefer? I'm looking for a cPanel box, and those IMHO, are the 2 best places (aside from Rackspace or something) to buy from....and I've heard great things about both of them.....
Rackshack only gives you 1 IP, but they have amazing support (forums, email, irc, etc...)
Dedicated Now has more bandwidth profiders, and just about the same prices, except I've never heard anything about GREAT support though.
So, what's the bottom line?

XN CEO 05-11-2003, 10:44 AM I'd go with dedicatednow, because of the speed of the network.
I used to get replies from them within minutes, but since there big sale a week or so ago, sometimes i dont even get a reply.
So the bottom line is ... If you're going to contact support every 2 minutes about something minor, I don't know about dedicatednow. But if you're like me and my team, we can handle little things on our own, and only need DEDicatednow for reboots or emergencies which they seem to handle fairly quickly, then you'll choose DEDNOW.
alilphsyc 05-11-2003, 11:16 AM Rackshack. They may have a slower network but they have a better network in terms of stability and their support is so great and no they don't only have 1 IP. They have 1IP but you can request up to 7 more for free if you have reasoning for them and then it's $25 + $2/mo per IP and you can have a maximum of 32 IPs/box.
inteltechs 05-11-2003, 11:46 AM it depends on your need :)...if you need a dual xeon... then go with rackshack.... otherwise... dedicatednow seems okay :)
SigilStudios 05-11-2003, 12:14 PM Rackshack all the way. Mega-stable network, great machines and fast support (they are non managed but the stuff they do support like reboots are fast).
As far as a "faster network". I see no difference. And rackshack doesnt go down. :)
qubefactor 05-11-2003, 01:47 PM Rackshack has no uptime guarantee....although I see no need for it since there's 13 providers....
PhilJ 05-12-2003, 01:00 PM Rackshack is amazing. As everyone has mentioned, I find their support alone is a good enough reason to get a box there. Extra IP's are allocated very quickly, their prices are great, and their DC is amazing.
dredy 05-12-2003, 09:03 PM dedicatednow is great...
i have a server from them
their bandwidth providers are great.. very fast...
they offer free remote reboot port and they have great support.
i'm glad to their server
qubefactor 05-12-2003, 09:05 PM Dedicated now has a fee for a remote reboot port, i thought...?
They do have a fee now...the free was only for pre-orders.
qubefactor 05-12-2003, 09:51 PM Thought I was going crazy for a sec....thx
I think both companies are a nice choice regardless, the only thing to consider IMHO is the type of machine you need and if you are going to need a wide selection of machines in the future.. If your answer is yes to that then go with rackshack.
If your answer is no to that then go with dedicatednow or rackshack. The major advantage i see to rackshack now is that they offer sooo many options in machines AND they have such low pricing.
Also stability....
Well, dont look at dedicatednow as a new kid on the block because they are not. they have just opened dedicatednow as a different avenue of selling their services, but they have been around for some time and i cant recall their company name, anyone?
But what im trying to say is both companies have been around for sometime and will for sometime im sure.. So i would just consider what type of machine your looking for.
Dedicatednow might(MIGHT) be better if you have a cpanel solution in mind as they have been dealing with cpanel for awhile longer than rackshack, though i could be wrong...
[EDIT]
Also, i wanted to mention something about the difference in SLA and TOS from dedicatednow and rackshack.. i wouldnt worry much about that.. why? The bottom line is that EVERY company has to protect one thing, their bottom line. Their cash flow in other words.. they can only guarantee so much and they can only promise so much. This is why they make the SLA/TOS polocies based on what they CAN do(at least we hope they do). But the bottom line is that regardless of what the SLA/TOS says, many companies will screw you and many will support you.
Ive seen some companies that dont support a downtime refund, but have issued one during downtimes anyway. Ive seen some companies that promise a 100% uptime and wont give you a cent. So my suggestion is to read the SLA/TOS and make sure you accept it, but also take into fact what kind of company your dealing with.. If the company is really out to please its customers they will support you above and beyond the SLA/TOS anyway.
If the company sucks then it doesnt matter if the SLA/TOS says they offer a 200% uptime guarantee, because you wont get it anyway...
I would go with DedicatedNow. I've had servers with RS and DN and think the DN server is alot better. Its alot faster, and I haven't had any problems. I had problems with RS tech department quite a few times, alot of them being rude. I will never use nor tell anyone to use RS again.
Layer3 05-13-2003, 10:54 PM rackshack in terms of the amount of options. There network lately has been extremely fast for me. Support is top notch, but they are unmanaged. Price you can't beat.
