I have my own server it has dsl with pppoe, (swbell) I want to expose it to the net so I can use it to develop with. Lots of folks have tried to get it out there, it is not working. I LIKE my dsl i just dont like this pppoe. I have the router to protect my system I just need to get out there, so I can do asp java, what have you and tear up my machine (server) as I see fit. Also some of my peers (all developers) would use it for testing. I am not going to pay over 50 a month to play host to a bunch of developers but it looks like i have to. Any one have suggestions? I want to setup about 10 to 15 different developers so they can add dll's if they need or javabeans and use a little database on this machine to test their pages. Or am I better off just using someones elses space. I just hate to tear up someones machine if I or the developers hose a dll.

I take it the router was supplied by SWBell? And, it gives your machine a private ip, and it gets a public ip?

I can probably solve this myself by changing my host. I think I will try another type of line like cable. I really want to keep this in house and not cause someone support headaches. So no need to reply, just venting at my own inability to beat this pppoe.

The router is a little linksys BEFSR41 that has PPPOE built in, I couldnt use SWBell's PPPOE software it whacked my registry too many times, and fought with my development software. Every time I tried to turn on port forwarding the PPPOE would disconnect and die.
I am on dynamic IP.

I forwarded one of my domain names to zoneedit so they could dns my changing ip and send my http requests to my server. Which I think works great.
However the one time i got it to work it brought up my router remote control panel ( this router only has remote http control)

Hmmm, now that sucks..... I have no clue as to why, your connection would go down because you turned on port forwarding....

I think you might have to find a host....

I tried a firmware upgrade on the router and now with zoneedit it goes to the router at swbell and stops. I have posted to be hosted in the advertiser section.

I asked for a host and got nothing, maybe i am asking for the wrong things in the advertiser section.

Am I confused or maybe asking for something impossible?

login to your control panel for your router (http://192.168.1.1) and click the "Advanced" tab, then click on the "DMZ Host" tab and put in the IP assigned to the comp you want as your web server (probably 192.168.1.100 That will take care of all your probs.

I sweer to you I am having the exact same problem but with 768k earthlink DSL. I want to serve my own page but the stupid pppoe is messing with the ports. I will be keeping tabs on this forum. Good luck with the problems melee.
