View Full Version : Looking for Dedicated Server...
fantom 06-29-2001, 06:06 PM I'm looking for a dedicated hosting with at least the following options:
- 9GB HD
- 256MB Ram
- 700MHz Processor
- 100GB bandwidth/month
- 5 IPs
- 24/7 support
- 99.9% uptime or better
and all that for $250 at the most...
Anyone?
Hmmm... I may be mistaken, but didn't you just post saying that $40 was too much for you?
fantom 06-29-2001, 06:23 PM This is a completely different story, for another cause... it has nothing to do with my previous post. Sorry if I caused any confusion.
jayglate 06-29-2001, 07:29 PM You are reaching to far with that much traffic. Say 25 or 40GB might be doable. but not 100

You will have a contract, and a 30 day money back guarantee...
Also, we're buying more bandwidth and this should be installed the 13th
JBIZ718 06-29-2001, 09:01 PM Wow those prices are quite amazing.
I will have to say solid network, being Sprint and good speed.
Seems like good prices, I have one question how are you able to offer Unlimited Transfer to your virtual clients.
I would love to know.
I will say other then that question, your stuff looks solid.

There are serveral things you can do to prevent large bandwidth sites effect other customers...
JBIZ718 06-30-2001, 11:08 AM Im not doubting that you can have load balancing tools and other monitoring tools, but there is no such thing as Unlimited Transfer.
They dont make a unlimited backbone, there is no OC-Unlimited.
It seems like the "unlimited myth" never stops. It is not possible to do this.
Just so you know, regardsless of how much bandwidth you have access to there is a limit, which makes it limited transfer

You are right, however, I have never ever charged anyone for bandwidth...
JBIZ718 06-30-2001, 11:56 AM Well when you buy a 24 pack of coke you are buying the coke, but included in that price is the cost of the packaging, advertising and other stuff.
So even though you dont say you charge for bandwidth its built into the cost. I would find it impossible to create packages without looking at your cost ratios, and profitability ratios and what not.
My only complaint as I said was the use of the word Unlimited when it comes to bandwidth or space. Its not possible and frankly gives the consumer a false impression. Other then that your services seem very solid....

Eagle 06-30-2001, 12:11 PM First of all, most users dont use a lot, some do....bad luck for me....
again, I HAVE NEVER CHARGED ANYONE FOR BANDWIDTH...
Most users are decent when it comes to bandwidth....and if it gets out of control, we just discuss it. Probably install an anti-leech option, or in extreme cases cap them at a decent speed....
And please.....stop :flamethr:
Respect other people's business...
For I have never charged anyone for it...
Come on, pleez people
JBIZ718 06-30-2001, 12:16 PM I do respect your business, but if you want to believe that bandwidth is free and you dont incur a cost for it more power to you.
You believe what ever you want to believe, but ask yourself this.
Due I incur a cost for bandwidth?
Due I charge a certain price for packages?
Is bandwidth part of the package and even more so A important aspect of web hosting?
If you answered yes to any of those, then in some fashion you charge for bandwidth, but you can believe what ever you want.. If you want to think you charge all that money for email accounts instead of bandwidth then good for you.
As I said before I think you have a solid system, so this is not a slam at all, more like a discussion on how unlimited transfer is a lie, and 2 how you in some way charge for bandwidth.
edude 06-30-2001, 12:27 PM LOL, sorry i agree with jbiz here, ofcourse you charge for bandwidth, you wouldnt be here if you didn't. Bandwidth is the most expensive component to any webhost :(

Chicken 06-30-2001, 02:44 PM Parts of this thread have nothing to do with the thread topic and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it, other than delete it outright. It would help us if these topics weren't introduced in the middle of threads as it forces the moderators to destroy discussions about valid topics which we don't like to do.
I am not a fan of unlimited *anything* as you all probalby know, and I fully believe that hosts should be accountable for their offerings, but this just isn't the place to start a discussion about this.
If this post and the discussion that doesn't quite fit with the thread aren't here next time you check the thread, you'll know why.
Eagle 06-30-2001, 04:51 PM oops, wrong topic...
mods please remove my reply...
sorry
