I'm looking at buying a dedicated server here in the UK and setting it up as I want it and then having it shipped to the USA with such a provider. Having not done this before - however - I'm unsure of the technical issues that might be involved.

Power for example. Would it be a simple case of getting a new power cord once the system arrives in the States?

If anyone has engaged in such a practice before I'd appreciate hearing what's involved. I'm somewhat confused at present.

Hi!

All you need to do is get a 2 pin power lead.....

The machine chasis will be dual voltage anyway so just remember to switch it over before you ship it! ;))

( There will be a red rocker switch with the current voltage on it just below where the power lead goes in! )

A 2 pin lead shouldnt be hard to get...depending on the case you might even get one with it!

Its easier sending things like that over to the US, its getting electronic goods over from the US thats the problem!

Have you seen the price of a step down converter ;)

On another note, the pound is soooo weak against the dollar at the minute, is it really worth the hassle of shipping it over when savings arent half what they were not so long ago?

Cheers,

If you are going to be co-locating in the USA then why not purchase your server from somewhere in the USA? It's what we did and it saved us a fortune on the hardware costs, nevermind the shipping costs.
