I'm an opensrs reseller and I have two problems related to Network Solutions.

Domain 1: The customer paid me and applied to have the domain transferred from Network Solutions to opensrs. They responded to the email to the owner to authorize transfer but it's been 4 days and is sitting there waiting for registrar authorization... How can I make Network Solutions authorize this?

Domain 2: This customer had someone register this domain with NS last year. They entered the contact phone #'s wrong and the contact emails were excite accounts that were since discontinued. There is no way to change the account information because it tries to send authorization notices to email accounts that no longer exist.

Is there a customer rep. phone # at NS that I can call to try to resolve these issues? So far my emails have only resulted in autoresponders giving me pat answers that are useless.....

Thanks,
Dean

4 days is not unusual. We've had transfers from NetSol to OpenSRS take up to a week.

I did a Net Solutions to Dotster transfer a few weeks ago, it only took about 4 days total.

Domain 1:Here's a good idea, make sure you repoint the nameservers before you start the move!

Domain 2: They have several faxable forms that can be used to correct domain problems. You should be able to start a request through their webiste, and finish it on one or more of these forms.

I fixed that email problem (in my case I had forgotten to update their DB) by contacting the old ISP I had the email account with, re-establishing my email account for one week ($10), = fixing the problem of bouncing emails, moving my domains to a different registrar. Bye-Bye NS!

NSI has recently adopted a "double approval" process much like the one with Register.com. Unfortunately, this makes things significantly more difficult.

Formerly, once a user approved the transfer notice from transfers@opensrs.org it went to NSI for registry approval at which point they would approve the transfer assuming the domain was in good standing.

However, now with the double approval, once the opensrs email is properly approved and the domain goes to NSI for registry approval, NSI will also send a confirmation email that must be approved. This email from NSI must be confirmed within three days or the registry transfer will time out as NSI will not approve it.

Meanwhile, you as the OpenSRS RSP cannot do much to help the process in the event that the admin contact does not confirm the NSI notice...

Hope this helps...

YES! Watch for the 2nd email from NS. Your customer will have to copy a line of text and place in the subject line in the reply to NS.

Something like:

Dear XXX XXXX:

>> Network Solutions/Verisign has received a request to Change the Registrar
>> of your domain name, domainname.ORG, to Tucows, Inc.. In order to protect
>> you against unauthorized or fraudulent registrar changes, we want to
>> obtain your authorization before we act to change your registrar. Please
>> reply to this email by copying and pasting the appropriate response as
>> described below:

>> If you wish to remain with Network Solutions, copy the following line in
>> its entirety and paste it into the subject line of your return email

>> [NIC-123456.ob1]:domain.ORG:TRANSFER=NO

>> If you wish to change the registrar, copy the following line in its
>> entirety and paste it into the subject line of your return email

>> [NIC-123456.ob1]:domain.ORG:TRANSFER=YES
>>
>> If you don't respond within 3 calendar days in the manner described above,
>> the request to Change Registrar will be denied.

>> If you have any question regarding this message, please respond to
>> registrar@networksolutions.com.

>> Best Regards,

>> Network Solutions, Inc.
>> Change of Registrar Group

NS has become a monster.

They do not always send the confirmation letter, or so it appears, and then they refuse the transfer saying you did not respond. Be sure to transfer way ahead of the expiration. I am the contact on some I have been trying to transfer and they are NOT sending the letter.

If it has expired they will refuse, and if it is close, they will stall until it expires.

Even after they have accepted, they will send letters to your clients that sound threatening about losing their domain.

Your second situation is easier.

If it set up for a Mail-From authorization, just change the contact information using the Mail-From address.

Good Luck
If you need help, it really is all on their site.

Thanks to everyone for their help - I'm still not sure where you found links to those phone #'s but I did get through. Issue #1 is resolved and it was just a matter of patience - they don't move any too fast.

The second matter is still in limbo. I had to register contact NIC's for myself and then record each of my nameservers with them. Once this is done they claim the client can fax them an authorization form on his company letterhead with the new administrative contact information and we'll work from there.

Thanks again for all the help. I've learned quite a bit about NS - not much that I liked.
