View Full Version : rdate.darkorb.net time problem

I use Cpanel/WHM and recently I noticed that there is a line ('rdate -s rdate.darkorb.net') in the burstcron file that is supposed to set the time. However their time server is about 65 seconds off compared to the established atomic stratum1 ntp servers in the *.nasa.gov and *.mil domains.

Does anyone know what server they use to synchronize the time on rdate.darkorb.net, if any?

Will there be a problem if I just remove that line as I already use ntpdate calling an atomic clock to set my server's clock?

Thanks.

anyone??? hasn't anyone noticed this? It surely affects a lot of servers as all those clocks are off by 65 seconds or more.

I'm not an expert on CPanel servers, but I'd assume that if you're running ntpdate yourself, it would be fine to remove that entry from the crontab.

Yes, I though about it, but what if it needs to be sunchronized with their server for a reason, like updates, licensing or things like that.

Can anyone from either Burst.net or Darkorb.net shed some light on this?

You have to give people time to answer or even come and see this. You dont post and get an answer 30 seconds later.

What are you talking about? I didn't mean to sound pushy. I just thought that maybe someone from Burst or Darkorb is reading this so that they would reply. That was all. I didn't mean to upset anyone. Sorry if it looked that way.

Dont take what I said the wrong way. I just meant you need to sit back and calm down. If they can help they will.

But posting and expecting a responce in a few minutes/hours will just serve to drive you nuts... do what I do.. post and set the email thing and go do something while you wait...

I know all that but thanks anyway.
