View Full Version : speed comparisons
daamsie 05-09-2003, 05:44 AM Hi there,
I was wondering whether it would be ok to get some people to test speeds for me on two different servers.
http://www.travellerspoint.com
http://travellerspoint.ayera.com
I am interested in how responsive each server seems to different people and where they are testing from.
Thanks a million for anyone willing to help out!
:spiny:
anon-e-mouse 05-09-2003, 05:48 AM The first one was very slow on ADSL (Australia) The second one much faster.
Killiptos 05-09-2003, 06:06 AM From NY, USA (Broadband) the first one was SLIGHTLY faster than the second. Barely noticable.
In Hong Kong the first link is a little bit faster. I'm using 3Mb/s ADSL.
ATL.
Second was about 1 sec faster. Using ADSL.
stephenM 05-09-2003, 07:10 AM Both were pretty slow on ADSL in the UK (0.5Mbit)
daamsie 05-09-2003, 07:16 AM Hi tlp, what's ATL??

Google seems to think that an ATL is "Advanced Technology Laboratory" :D
daamsie 05-09-2003, 07:18 AM thanks all,
so far the two seem pretty even overall! I really thought the second one was a lot slower, but it seems it may just be my specific connection! I am testing on 56k in Australia.
stephenM 05-09-2003, 07:21 AM Where are the sites hosted?
daamsie 05-09-2003, 07:25 AM One is east coast USA and the other west-coast. I thought perhaps this was resulting in slower times for international visits. I had my brother testing in Norway and he also found the second a lot slower (we were both noticing 1.5 - 2 x as long loading times.)
I should have checked here earlier though, as of course these things are very dependant on connections, etc.
The new host has been very responsive with support questions, so I would love to go with them, but have been held back by these speed issues.
Any more results are definately welcome.
hostmic 05-09-2003, 07:38 AM Me too, The first one was very slow on ADSL (Australia) The second one much faster.
ScorpionC 05-09-2003, 07:56 PM Using adsl, the second one was faster for me by a few seconds. (Canada) Although both speeds were not bad. (3-5 sec)
phpcoder 05-09-2003, 08:25 PM The first one is faster for me, so I am guessing it is the East Coast server?
daamsie 05-09-2003, 08:40 PM Yes phpcoder, the first one is east coast. I guess you are in that area then?
IGobyTerry 05-09-2003, 08:57 PM The first one was faster for me. But only by a minimal amount. I'm in the east coast, Ohio to be exact.
IGS Host 05-09-2003, 09:00 PM the first one is faster for me.
CCF Hosting 05-10-2003, 12:20 AM http://travellerspoint.ayera.com was faster then http://www.travellerspoint.com. From a satellite connection.
Thanks and God Bless!
GideonX 05-10-2003, 12:32 AM New York, both seem to be the same speed at this hour on cable.
