If anyone knows where modems are at a good price, please post them here, I need a 56k v.90 Windows 2k modem at a decent price like under 20 bucks....I went to ubid and egghead no luck for what i am looking for...

Check out, http://www.pricewatch.com/ I found one on there with win2k drivers for $9.

Those are WinModems.

It uses your main CPU for all the "fancy" stuff, so unless you have a fast processor; you'll notice a speed difference.

its 800 Mhz Duron with 256 megs or ram...so what kind of speed are you talking about?

You'll be fine. You could always get an external 33.6 for about the same price, and it wouldn't use your cpu.

My net phoneline got hit by lightning a few months back. We had two pc's connected to the line. One got the shizzola zapped out of it(internal), the other one just blew up the modem.

USR is the best modem I've used, and external is even better.

If you want a cheap non-winmodem I suggest Creative Lab's ISA 56K modem w/ controllers. I used this modem for a long long while and never had a problem with it.

I got to have PCI, so ISA just wont cut it this time around, I did have a US robotics 33.6 modem that was a killer, never got kicked off or anything, It may still be on the list to use for Windows 2k
