Just wondering to all of you who offer Fantastico...

How much more support does it add to your load??
Do you directly support the scripts it installs??
If you do NOT support directly, how do your clients feel about it??

Any info on this be great...
I am thinking of offering it, but really do not want the added stress of learning all these scripts so I can support them properly.
(as I hate sending clients off to vendor sites)

You have to know your clients. Do you, already, support their scripts?

We offer Fantastico. But, clearly state that we do not do any (un-paid) scripting work for our customers. Our duty is to keep the server up and up-to-date so that their scripts 'will' work. That's not to say we wouldn't. It just affords us the opportunity to point them to the documentation, if we choose.

No I do not currently support these scripts..
I have helped a few get things installed, but thats pretty much it.

I was afraid that sending them off to vendor would leave a bad taste in their mouths..
as I only done this in the PC tech field and sent ppl to the hardware vendors. (Always a pain for client which I want to avoid putting them through such junk)

Anyway, thanks for taking time to post SWR ;)

I think I will offer it after we beef server up to 2gb RAM :)

We offer Fantastico and I personally feel that it has cut down on support requests. Basically, before people were asking how to go about installing such programs as is offered by Fantastico, but now they are installed for them as easy as clicking on a button.

As long as you make it clear that support on these programs comes from the makers and not from you, and that you are simply offering this service as a kind gesture, then I think you should be fine with it.

That's a really good point, Tony. Most support requests regarding those scripts 'are' because people can't get them installed.
