How do the two compare, I know i have heard a lot about essentially the next step up in terms of ease of use/management/etc from a reseller account is a managed dedicated, is that hitting pretty close to correct?

How much different are the two?

What would you reccomend going with if I was looking into providing shared & reseller accounts? Would a VDS be something better to look into?

Thanks for all of the help

reseller account - $35
managed dedicated - $350

It's really all about price. With a dedicated you'll be able to do alot more, but you will also need to know alot more in order to take advantage of the new features.

I'd recommend getting enough clients that you can move them onto a dedicated and at least break even (in the beginning).

If you are just starting out with resellers, you may want to look into reselling another companies reseller accounts.

Depends on the definition of managed that seems to vary allot around these forums.

Make sure you ask any potential host what theirs is what all they include in the managed solution. In-fact it is a good idea to ask a reseller host the same questions, as has been shown here recently there are a few host that sell reseller accounts and flat out tell you they will not hold your hand and will only take care of server problems.

That said yes you can get a managed server that offers the same level of support so to you it woudl be nothing more than a big reseller account.

I don't think a reseller account can really be compared to a managed server, for many different reasons. The first one, as DSD pointed out, is price. Even if a server is "managed", you still need to know what you want/need to be able to take advantage of the server being dedicated. With the reseller account, you just really use what they give you:)
