Hi, Newbie here.

Anyway. I like to go into selling web hosting but it is obvious I can't start off with a dedicated server.

So I need to know how to start off in reselling. In other words, I need to know the basics of reselling. How much does it cost to start? What do I need? etc.... No need to recommend resellers right now since I need to know first the basics of reselling.

for me it was like this

I decided to do it

I looked into different companies

I registered a domain name (13$)

I bought the reseller account (15 $ a month plus a 10$ set up fee)

now you set up the site , get a credit card processor (revcom 49$ no monthly fees only fees if used)

thats it! :)

You should also have a good grasp of at least the basics of a web server inorder to answer questions about the service. And you should spend some time poking around the server at the service you get (not hacking, just looking around your virtual server) to familiarize yourself with how the accounts are setup initially (what scripts and where, initial directories etc etc).

Well,

if you cant afford a dedicated to start with,
how about you take a reseller package.

You have several kind of reseller packages...
There are referral packages, or resell packages, and they come in different type...

For instance, a method we prefer is get an account, put your site up there, and when you have a new customer, contact us and we'll setup the new domain for you.
then you contact your customer and you have him upload the site....rather simple... this is probably the most popular way of reselling

(NOTE TO MODS: This is an example only, not a sales promotion! :) )

Costs vary from one host to another. Some hosts charge a setup fee, some require you to have a special (often more expensive unfortunately, heh) reseller package account, some don't have a setup fee nor require you to have an account to resell.

Overall, my suggestion is to pick a reseller host the same way you'd pick a host for a very important web site. Why? Because you might resell a package to someone who has a site that is important to them, and you want to be sure you haven't just picked the absolute cheapest host out there.

Support for you will be important since you might have clients contact you for support and *then* have to contact your provider (time delays in getting back to your client don't make you look any better).

http://www.recellar.com has some info you might find useful, a review section with people you might want to contact about a certain host you are interested in. Of course this particular forum here at WHT has some good threads (read read read).

Good luck.
