View Full Version : To steal or not to steal an ICQ UIN ? Is that a valid question ?
Domenico 06-28-2001, 02:30 PM In another thread I posted a message saying I have three extreme low ICQ numbers. Well, here is an example how they (most of the time they are Russian or Turkish) trie to steal them from me.
I repeatedly get messages with the following URl; http://aska.ru/
They say it is a web-based gateway to ICQ but I think it is something else.
Am I wrong here? If so, i appologize but I really think it's just another scam to get your (very pricy) low UIN so they can sell it...
I wouldn't try it, but that's just me.
BTW: How low are your UINs?
Planet Z 06-28-2001, 02:53 PM LOL!
From their site:
No more passwords to remember! No more registration! Just enter Your UIN and password and enjoy Your intercourse.
onlyreal 06-28-2001, 03:39 PM as a Turk i must say we are the world biggest icq robbers:)
there are alot of method for stealing icq uin
and everyday new one come out
most famous uins that my friends hacked are
10 million
and
1 million also
they hacked alot 6 number uins
be sure dont right any e mail adress to your uin esspaccialy one from hotmail
dont dont write you pass to any website
akashik 06-28-2001, 03:49 PM I must be missing something here.. is this like the new Pokemon or something?
I had a very low number from years and years ago, but lost it when I stopped using ICQ for a while. As far as I know I still have it under some handle of mine. If I can ever find it again, I'll let you know :)
So what's the $ value on an old UIN?

I saw that too, and fell out of my chair laughing!!!!
onlyreal 06-28-2001, 04:00 PM i think
uin s lik 1 million worth s much
akashik 06-28-2001, 04:16 PM well a round number like that would be pretty cool I have to admit.
Would a crappy meaningless number around 624 000 be worth anything?
Not really looking - just curious more than anything..
Greg Moore
I've had my 8 digit UIN since mid '97.
Tim Greer 06-28-2001, 05:26 PM An ICQ number being worth something nd being sold? Wow, I don't recall ever hearing anything so stupid in my entire life! Speaking of, would anyone be interested in buying my initials? Yes, that's right, my initials! You can buy the letters TG from me, act now, quantities are low!
onlyreal 06-28-2001, 05:30 PM my friend tried to sell me th uin 1 million for 750$ i didnot get it
but a number like this would be cool for a hosting numbet
think slogan
wanna a tech support?
add our uin to your icq
1,000,000
determinist 06-28-2001, 06:15 PM A hacker friend of mine hack a hacked 6 digits UIN from a hacker and eventually got counter hacked. Interesting when he told me the story, that Russian guy revenge by getting hold and spam his entire contact list.
slade 06-28-2001, 06:23 PM I've got one just under 1.5 million...
It even rightfully belongs to me... I'll sell it, any takers?
that's 7 digits folks...
Certificate of Authenticity and everything :D
Domenico 06-28-2001, 06:29 PM Hmmmm, I thought you guys knew about this. It's going on for a long time allready and people are stealing the low numbers because other people are paying a lot of cash for it.
I have a very low 5 digit and two low 6 digit UIN's and I started to get offers for it more than a year ago from the strangest people and yes, companies. I'm not going to tell you how much because you wouldn't believe it anyway.
The example I started this thread with is just one of the many examples how they allready tried to get my numbers. One time I got an email from Mirabilis telling me people were trying to get the login using a brute force attack. I have secured my UIN's with the most difficult passwords so they won't succeed that way in a long time.
In the beginning (the week they started!) I was registering those things as much I drink water. I forgot the passwords for them as quickly as I got them ;-)
Who would have thought those low numbers would be worth something in a near future or did the three programmers knew they would get 400 million dollar for the software a couple of years later?
A world gone crazy? And, are you really a much cooler person with a low ICQ number?
You decide...
Two Russian examples:

DHWWnet 06-28-2001, 06:39 PM anybody selling their low digit icq number ? :D
I suppose it might make some small amount of sense if you are going to use ICQ as a sales or support contact method. It might have the same sort of value as a two-or three-letter domain name. But not nearly as much, since it is just ICQ! I mean, the number of potential people who might use it to contact you is miniscule compared to with a domain name.
So why not tell us, Domenico? What range of offers have you received?
Tim Greer 06-28-2001, 06:59 PM There's always going to be lots of people that offer lots of money for completely trivial, stupid and worthless things. ICQ numbers are a great example of that. :-) I mean, we're not talking about 800 numbers here, and for that matter, even those aren't worth much these days. I personally think the whole idea of trying to get a low number for people to remember, is fine, but to put a value on it, is just completely ridiculous. However, the thing that makes items valuable, is the people that want them. If everyone asked $100,000 for a '79 RCA console television, well, that's how much it'd be worth, wouldn't it? Still, I think it's insanely stupid.
Would I take a low ICQ number if offered to me? Sure, why not? Would I pay even one dollar for a great, 5 digit ICQ number like 10000? No. Sure, I could (apparently) sell it to someone, but what a waste of time. Perhaps this has been an issue for a while, I obviously wasn't aware, but I'm not for the fact that it would never occure to me that it would be worth anything. It's not even like selling a telephone number, which would make more sense. But, as long as the numbers are easy to remember and not too long, why bother with anything else? For example, my phone number, in this area, is easy to remember, but perhaps not as good as 222-2222 or 222-1000 or something, but that just seems ridiculous to try and get something like that. There's no good reason, not in my opinion. I mean, if someone wants to contact support, sales or whatever via ICQ of all things, they won't care what your number is. After all, once they add you to their list, you're just a name anyway.
i got 68987390
i used to have 1 in the 2's i forgot the password tho!
JustinK 06-28-2001, 11:55 PM Someone took my 131xxxx number awhile ago and I got it back... hackers that don't change the e-mail address... real smart. Anyway, took it back and changed the password. I don't see low icq numbers being worth anything. I can't remember'em anyway. That's what copying/pasting is for. :) And if someone can't remember the icq number they can always look up your name, e-mail address, or forget that and just e-mail you for it.
I own 12503252, which is all mine, but I'd sell it for money, or anythng else.

You should make the website where users enter their UIN secure (https://) :) Also, i haven't seen a privacy policy or company information anymwhere.
