hey all,
i am trying to connect my computer to internet so i can access it from other places. I try using http server software which says all i need is static ip address(which i do) and i be able to access things on my computer. So i type
http://4.35.129.180
assuyim,g 4.35.129.180 is my ip address and it shows the index page (when server software is running). It also works with my other computer in my network, it can easily fimnd the computer. But when i goto computer not on my network but connected to inetrnet like from university and type in
http://4.35.129.180
it can neevr find my computer on the intrenet!!! i use diffrent software like theserver, sedum, zbspro (u can find all these simple software at www.adnet.com) and have same results, even using windows pws(personal web server) it find my computer on intranet and not internet.
I thouhgt intranet could gimme some problem so i disconnect it from intranet and directly use connection to net without any router, same problem!!!!! Plz help! would i need to register my ip address thru some registar company like register.com b4 internet can recognize me??? i will really appreciate ur help!!!

While on the internal network, are you going thru a gateway, and have internal ip addresses (ie...192.xxx.xxx.xxx) for each machine? If so, you may need to setup your gateway/router to forward all port 80 requests to your internal ip address. This would also possibly explain why it doesn't work when you remove it from the network and connect it directly to the internet.

Additionally, you may have the default gateway set incorrectly. What OS are you using?

You don't need to do forwarding.
