How much money did you spend on advertising, and was it worth it?

I'd also like to post a poll, about a feature that we might implement... I'd like to know your opinion... I hope you won't move it to the advertising forum, because actually I'm not offering this service yet, we don't even have the system ready, but we want to know if you're interested in something like this:

In the last few month the regular banners on all sites get a very low CTR. I was thinking taking that space on our sites, and converting it to text links, specially designed, text links.

What do you think?

Do you have any ideas? maybe something that could replace the banners in the web hosting industry?

Again, this is not an ad since we're not offering this service... but if there will be a high demand we might :)

Well, if you have a lot of money, 2k plus, check out cj.com. Otherwise, where are you advertising now? Fineclicks.com which I plan on using lets you choose who to advertise on, basicly you approve them. This should help with low crt.

Thousands of dollars
well worth it....

However,dont do banners....
they are not effective... Text links are better actually... and I sincerely mean that...

hmm, yea, that's why I asked, as I mentioned in the first post, we are thinking about replacing the regular banner with a place for a designed text link with some graphics that will give it some shape.. but the ad will have actual text.

Any ideas for special effects?

Banners usually dont draw attention,
for surfers "get used to them"

However, something like this
Black BGCOLOR, White TEXT
White BGCOLOR, Black TEXT
Black BGCOLOR, White TEXT
White BGCOLOR, Black TEXT
Black BGCOLOR, White TEXT
White BGCOLOR, Black TEXT
Black BGCOLOR, White TEXT
White BGCOLOR, Black TEXT

etc WILL help.... draws attention

I agree, banners are not that effective, and thus the downward recent trend and less money in the online advertising world recently. Those that were mostly generating money on banners, and are still around after the .com fallout have invested seriously into other means of revenue (.i.e. yahoo.com)
