Hmm interesting...
But does anyone have any experience with them?

I mean, we all know Thawte and Verisign are trustworthy....But FreeSSL, I never heard of them.....

As always, there is a catch.

The SSL certificate is _free_ -- but you have to enroll in a "True Site" program.. which costs (surprise!) 49$

So that changes absolutely nothing. Oh, and by the way - the certificate is only supported by IE 5.0 and higher.

FreeSSL is available to all ISPs who enroll in the True Site program. With FreeSSL, you will receive a trusted USERTrust SSL certificate that is compatible with 70% of current Web browsers (Internet Explorer™ 5.01 and higher). Free SSL is not currently compatible with Netscape Web browsers.

And True Site is $49/domain.

70% of current browsers, and no Netscape...

(This post just got approved instantly... any new changes going on?)

Yep, we're hoping that the Advertising Forum can remain unmoderated again. So far so good.

After getting off the phone with them...

They are offering a different SSL right now for people who buy True Site. It is the Equifax SSL + True Site for $49, so you can't beat the deal considering just Equifax SSL at the cheapest is $68. Looks like you have to resell the True Site too... but I'm not sure about that... I am going to see the contract and that should/will clear everything up.

Get-Hosted,

Let us know if you find anything.

Personally....
Maybe it's just me, but I've always found it *very* hard to feel confident in any sales pitch that sounds like a late night infommercial. Seems to set off my b.s. alarm almost instantly.

I think I'll stick with Thawte

Most of the ads placed here read that way. I especially enjoy the ones about "this special absolutely ends on (whatever)!!!!!!!!" when you know there will be another one just like it from the same company, not too far in the future, and it will probably be something just as ludicrous to try and get people that don't know any better. In fact, I think we'll start offering, say 30G or so for $20 or so, just like everybody else, and I won't let anything remotely approaching the phrase "fiscal and ethical responsibility" come to mind.

Update: You have to make a new hosting package, or add their service to your additional packages. I think I'd rather get a $68 Equifax cert, and not deal with them... then get a $49 True Site thing that is, "Going to be HUGE!!!" That comes with an Equifax cert. I've asked some question regarding their service through email... and on the 2nd email I get: This is the deal. You can take it or not.(snip)
I can help you but I will not waste me company time.(snip)

If you want to resell True Site, want True Site, and need a cheap Equifax SSL cert, then this is for you.
