Hi,
I was looking over both Alabanza and Dialtone and need help:
I am looking for a company that will help me administer the server since I don't know how to. Do any of these companies offer that as pasrt of the package?
Also, which comp. would you suggest for reliability, speed, support?

Thanks for your comments!

Ben

Both are excellent companies by all accounts, so there is no wrong choice to be made between them. After much investigation, I got a dedicated server with Dialtone two weeks ago. I've been very pleased with the service and support. My questions have been answered promptly and satisfactorily.

A quick look at Alabanza's site impressed me with their level of automation. They probably do have an easier to user interface. With DI, some functions must be performed via telnet. Alabanza might be a better choice for you if the interface is important.

However, they are reported to be expensive. You might prefer DI on price. I didn't find getting my server operational to be the least bit daunting. I had only a passing familiarity with Unix/Linux, though I did read the information and FAQs on site. I found them most helpful and informative.

I also prefer to learn how things work and do them myself, will take the time to read, and am a quick study. I still use DOS commands and keyboard shortcuts for speed and efficiency over the Windows interface. You might not be similarly inclined.

However, if you are, you can save some money over Alabanza's rates.

Whatever your choice, though, you really can't go wrong. Both are exemplary companies.

Duster is right, Alabanza is MUCH more expensive and if you are new, I would suggest dialtone too. Your low end server with Alabanza is $600 per month with a heafty $800 setup fee if you pay monthly. I've never been with dialtone, but I had considered getting a server with them.

Alabanza's servers are totally automated. They come with a built in accounting system, DNS system and more. You can customize the control panels and add/remove features with the click of a button.

You also have Telnet capability, if you need a prompt.

If you are new, get a RaQ. I assume that's what Duster got. They are cheap and easy to use and can easily support up to 100 clients.

Have you considered www.npsis.com (http://www.npsis.com) their setup fee is about $200 to $300 and the monthly fee is only $200 per month, very friendly service as well.

Its a tough one.

If your looking to start a hosting company or have many clients, go with Alablanza.

If you plan on just having a site or a couple of sites, then get a ded. server from dialtone.

If your rich, and can afford it, get Alabanza for the hekc of it.

Well tuff call! Both companies offer good support, reliable servers. Alabanza's is a bit pricey and if they offer a special watch out for after minimum contract's price..usually goes higher! Good interface..

Dialtone...very very competitive prices, modest interface - does the job -
