I have a site currently, www.myartisan.net, but my partner backed out on me and I know nothing about cgi scripting or anyhting, I know HTML quite well but was thinking about deleting everyhting and converting to a reseller site for hosting as it seems you can make good profits. My question is, how to you start out the reseller and would anyone be willing to work with me to help me start up for some money or a cut or something? Thank You,
Sam

Hi Sam
The easist way is to go to www.***************.com and spend $50-100 bucks on a template and customize it to your needs.
Get your site fully functional with no "under construction" messages. Sort out your billing/payment system.
Find a quality reseller package.
Now the hard part is to find your customers.
Do that and offer exceptional support.
You'll be well on your way then!

How much do people generally make off this?

I think that depends mostly on how much time and effort you put into it.

Tuff Question there Sam
You will need to do some maths
(Example Only)
Basic Reseller Package
1000MB Storage
15GB Transfer
$20-$30 USD per Month

A typical Hosting Plan is
100MB Storage
3GB Transfer
$10 USD per Month Each

Oversell this and you get 20 packages (when limits catch up with you upgrade to a higher reseller plan)
$20 * $10 = $200

$175 Profit Approx

Try going with a host that has some experience providing accounts to resellers. A lot of them are very helpful to their customers. If you get an unhelpful one, find another host.

First thing you gotta do, is be like all the other reselling hosts..

Lose your love for the quality things in life, and dive into what seems to be a very successful easy-peasy industry of remote reseller hosting. =P

Sorry it's late.. I better log-off before I hurt someone's feelings.

I think your aim must always be about getting bigger and better by providing quality and affordability. Dont look out for a quick buck but try to lay a strong foundation and then build a solid reputation on top of that. Remember patience is always a virtue...

I'm new here and considering becoming a reseller too.

This typical hosting plan seems too expansive to me. Look at this forum and ebay, people are selling 250MB space, 5GB BW/mo for $15/year!

I know you can't count too much for the qulity of service or customer support, but, it made it extremely difficult to sell a plan with 100MB / 3G BW for $10/month. Am I right?

Wrong, completely wrong, many people buy good packages, give a 1 week free trial, if they like it, they will come back, if they don't kick them off your server.

Hi,
One thing to do when starting out as a reseller that is important, is if you don't know anything about cgi scripts... go learn.

I found that you get a ton of people needing help with installing simple scripts like guestbooks, and forms. Just install some in your own site, and practice.

Then delete them and install them again. Get familiar with them, and your customers will thank you when the time comes.

Also, what I think is the most important thing to know as a new reseller...
DON"T SELL YOURSELF SHORT !!!!!!!!

If you want to make it your business, then think about the actual costs of doing business. If you work at it, you will be on your own servers soon, and you will, I said WILL need to be able to hire help for support as you grow.

We have had to lower our prices a bit to compete in the market, but I would't think about competing with these give it all for a buck hosts that can't afford to give decent support to their customers. They will not last, but my company has been going fine since '98, and plan to be around for the long haul.

Good luck

What I notice is that people think it's a cheap bussiness. Well truely, it's not, you need good money to start stong, you start weak, you stay weak.

By weak I mean bad.

I am also new too, even though I am not planning become a reseller, but I also want to know how it work.

What are the differences between share host and reseller host? Do you need to install somethings after you bought a reseller package from another host? What are basic steps that you need to know besides find the customers? THanks
