we have developed an in-house monitoring system that is analogous to alertra. it has some features alertra does not and lacks a few others. it is only usable in-house right now, but could be developed into a commercial product.
id like to gauge interest in a feature rich monitoring service at a small fraction of alertra's price. if there is enough interest and we decide to develop it into a commercial application, it would make each minute multiple port monitoring actually affordable as well as add features such as:
+ xml-based api access (pull your stats in xml format)
+ desktop status indicators (have your status indicators sitting in your tray or in a small window like xload)
+ route downtime heuristics (detect downtime on one of your provider's routes)
+ server-side extended status notifications (get regular cpu load, idle pct, i/o load, memory pressure etc notifications from your servers)
+ anything else our (and your) sick minds can think of =]
please chime in and let me know if there is any interest.
