View Full Version : Gearhost
caser85 05-04-2003, 08:00 PM I was here searching for hosting a few months ago. I ended up going with Gearhost and I just want to tell everyone how happy I am with them. It's cool because they support PHP, MySQL, ASP, ASP.net, SQL server, and Perl. Also their control panel rocks! Finally every support ticket I've submitted to them has come back answered within 2 hours (usually 10 minutes though). Anyway, for those of you looking for a multi-development host, check them out.
influence 05-04-2003, 08:29 PM instead of their staff replying to my ****ing email, they on here pretending to be customers .
if u guys charge one more time on my credit card and ignore my emails about canceling my account, I will let my lawyer know about this situation
nvphone 05-04-2003, 08:39 PM How do you this is staff?

Dude I am not part of their staff. Here (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=470025#post470025) is a thread back in July 2002 when I was thinking about going with Hostrocket. I just figured that we definitely complain when a host screws up, why not let everyone know when one of them is doing something good?
hekwu 05-04-2003, 11:02 PM Because GearHost has been down a lot last week... the year has not been good for them either.
Maybe you don't check your site or don't look at your uptime... could be possible... I guess... you also must not look at the GearHost forum where they admit to major problems.

Yeah I saw that they had one down time last week during the morning. I guess I missed that one and hadn't checked my site that morning. What do you mean this year has not been good for them? Besides this one downtime (that I missed) I haven't had any other problems with them.
Wulex 05-04-2003, 11:53 PM thats good, but if you are staff, that's low
takalien 05-05-2003, 12:08 AM if you are not staff, you are the exception.
I am unhappy with gearhost because of the unreliability.
People think in different ways, sthough.

Go read their forum! For goodness sakes, man (or woman)!
Down time has not been at what they gaurantee any month this year so far. downtime has been in the pits and so have the problems... slow support response times, etc, etc. All documented... I'm careful not to overdo the problems, but to state facts that are documented someplace (on their forum, in my support tickets, on this site, etc.)
I don't think this guy works for GearHost... I think he is an old customer looking to kick GearHost.... he knew the kind of replies he would get by posting on this forum. Not even GearHost staff is so dumb as to post this thread so soon after major problems/downtime.
caser85 05-05-2003, 02:47 AM Like I already said, I DO have an account with Gearhost, but I don't work there! I signed up with Gearhost a couple months ago. I've been with them for a couple months and I've noticed no down time. Every trouble ticket I've submitted with them (I've submitted 9) as been answered within 2 hours at the most. I don't check their forums to see how other people's accounts are doing. I came here and wrote on what MY experience was with them. So again, Gearhost has treated me well and I would recommend them to anyone. Maybe I'm just getting lucky with my service. Hopefully they can turn it around for those of you that are having problems.
hekwu 05-05-2003, 01:03 PM they had another downtime again this morning... but I guess you missed that one as well....
There is no way they answered 9 separate trouble tickets within 2 hours each. I don't believe that... sorry.
I don't want to start a war... I'm off this post. I've made my point. You can answer and I'll read.. or send me a PM.

Dude, it was for 15 minutes on the east coast. I'm on the west coast. So no I didn't notice. About the trouble tickets, it's true. I've pretty much shot down everyone in this thread that has said, "you're staff" "you're out to get gearhost"... consider yoursef a victim. It is best you leave this thread because you can't hang.
Coach 05-05-2003, 02:24 PM I'm sure that they have more than one server, so people may have problems with them that are on one, but other people may not have problems with downtime that are on another server.
It's good that you care having a good experience with this company. It's just unfortunate that it seems that doesn't seem to be a consistent experience across the board lately. Hopefully they'll clear up their problems with some others and be able to provide the excellent service you have gotten to everyone in the future.
dallo 02-04-2005, 03:46 PM I made a mistake of purchasing a 12 months package with Gearhost which I was later to regret. It was a 12 month nightmare. Their server was either slow or it was down. When you tried to get support they tried to fob me off or turn the table and blame me or my website. Their servers and database was over subscribed. I have been with a new host now for 2 months and they are fantastic with a brilliant service and support. Glad to see the back of Gearhost and I have informed them and told them how I felt.
rsoxhater 02-12-2005, 02:11 PM I've been with gearhost for about 2 years. There has been a few extended periods of downtimes (a few hours), but nothing more than that and nothing major recently (on the two servers I have accounts on). I recently opened a second account with them as well.
Tech support has gotten much much better. It used to be slow and one guy I specifically had a few run ins with. The new guys they have now are prompt and friendly - I usually use the live help feature during business hours and they usually take care of my problem right away. Support tickets are responded to very quickly during business hours, including a few complex ones I had.
Only thing I would request is that they check the support tickets on weekends as thats when I do most of my work on websites.
