Since the Search function has been disabled on this forum, I'm posting this question instead of doing a search for the information.
I'm looking for comments and recommendations on "Web Server Monitors" that are some what reliable and cost effective. I need the ability to monitor multiple web sites and ports (HTTP, FTP..).
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

alertra costs money.
nPulse is free:
nPulse (http://www.horsburgh.com/h_npulse.html)
I've been using for a while now and it does exactly what i want to do. It's from the makers of nmap so it's stable. I monitor whole class c's with this and it has no problems. Definetly worth trying.

Thanks for the info on Alertra & nPulse.
I did look at Alertra. It seems be be a good service, but if I want to monitor a lot of sites, it would get rather expensive rather quickly.
I also looked at nPulse. I like the price, but if it's running on a Linux box, could I still monitor multiple sites (Linux & NT)?

nPulse isnt from the makers of nmap(fyodoor - insecure.org/nmap) ). It just uses nmap as a backend :)
Dont give them false credit:)

yes. nPulse is compatible with dozens of OS's, including IOS and HP-UX.
