It's a getty program (I think only for Linux), for virtual consoles (only). Type "man mingetty" while in shell and see if you get a manual page for it... that should explain it. drhonk 06-27-2001, 10:35 PM mingetty is for virtual terminal .. it controls tty. Available in all unix not just linux. XTStrike 06-28-2001, 05:00 AM ive seen that before when i instaled ttysnoop on a machine. Domenico 06-28-2001, 05:27 AM Thank you all for the answers. So I guess it is used so the admins can call in from home or so to do maintenance or other things... ttysnoop? interresting ;-) XTStrike 06-28-2001, 05:41 AM ttysnoop, its an application that allows a box administrator to spy on what other people are typing when they are connected to the box without them knowing, you can see every command they type when they are connected via Telnet/SSH Domenico 06-28-2001, 06:27 AM __________________ Stupid People... 3 people die each year testing if a 9v battery works on their tongue. HOW??? ttysnoop, I thought you could see what the box admins were typing using mingetty XTStrike 06-28-2001, 07:17 AM you should never be able to see what "box admins" are typing. and afaik ttysnoop is one of the most popular packages out there to "snoop" on a connection. - - - - - 9v is actually quite a shock to the system if you dont have a strong heart or are using a pace maker or other electrical equipment to regulate your body, the shock to the body in such a sensitive area can be devastating. Never believe what you read, I must have tried putting a 9v battery on my tounge 2 million times and I'm still alive. In fact, I just did that probably 9 times this morning -- and for no rational reason, I just did it out of the blue! Putting 9v battery's on your tounge, kicks ass! I strongly recommend it. With 6 billion people in the world and 3 dying each year. you'll have to try a lot more than 2 million times before you'd expect to die... :D Using some conservative figures, say on average each person in the world tries the 9V tongue trick once in a year. That's 3/6 000 000 000 = 1 in 2 billion chance of dying  You'd expect to have had a 0.1% chance of death with your 2 million. Better clock up a few more :D (dodgy statistics I know, just putting things in perspective :D) XTStrike 06-28-2001, 08:53 AM lol, thanx for clearing that up Lawrence, mine was going to be along the same lines but i didnt have time. Putting your tongue into an AC outlet, that kicks ass! 9v batteries? Child's play. Domenico 06-28-2001, 10:57 AM 9V on year ass really KICKS ass I suppose. XTStrike 06-28-2001, 11:11 AM are we not going a "liiiiiiiittle" teeny weeny bit OFF TOPIC here? LOL Chicken 06-28-2001, 11:22 AM Seems so, thus I've adjusted the thread topic :D Planet Z 06-28-2001, 11:34 AM Originally posted by JayC Bah. You direct current kids are completely missing out.
