Hi,

Theres a domain Im very keen on that says available in whois but when I go register it, it says taken. Ive tried registrar.com, namecheap.com & networksolutions.com but they all will not let me register it as it is taken but on all of them the whois says available.

Whats going on?.. Would this be the type of situation when I should use backorder?

Thanks,

Dave

is it a 2 letter .org by chance? (2 letter .orgs can no longer be registered.)
also
if its name.biz/example.biz/etc they are not allowed to be registered. they are reserved.

So the domain you are trying to register is probably reserved and there is no way you can get it.

Nah its a 10 letter .com that wouldnt be reserved, I found it using snaganame.com which said itll be available yesterday.

Maybe it was just registered but the info hasn't been updated in InterNIC's whois database?

Ok I just did a whois search on internic's site and I got PENDINGDELETE as status, how long does it stay here for?

Thanks,

Dave

Should I be doing a backorder?

Thanks,

if you want to maximise your chances of getting the domain, I would strongly suggest it.

If a snap or back order has NOT been placed on a domain when it enters REDEMPTION PERIOD, very often it is not a very sought-after name and would probably be grabbed MANUALLY by amateurs.

Someone should write some sort of a program where I could just type in the domain I want and every 1hr or 2 while its in pendingdelete status it goes and tries to grab it.

I think the prices for backordering are a bit over the top.

Not if the domain is worth 10 times or 100 times the cost of a snap. Wouldn't you agree? Dont waste a snap on something worth less then the cost and risks.

I wish I took your advice :(

Someone else grabbed it, the domain was perthfind.com Perth being the city I live in, could have been a winner for a local search engine I would like to do now itll just be another wasted domain I bet.

Why not just register perthsearch.com, which is currently available?

perthfind.com had some major universities down here linking to it.
