Quoted data charges for bandwidth at Ventures Online..

Can someone explain these, it looks quite strange and I've not seen this type of charge anywhere else before for bandwidth?

*Additional Bandwidth charges are automatic and we will bump you up 10 GB as default.

*At a cost of 3.00 a month per gig




Under 50 Gig Total Monthly Data Transfer
We charge for outgoing data transfer only

Between 50 and 100 Gig Total Monthly Data Transfer
We charge for incoming and outgoing data transfer

Over 100 Gig Total Monthly Data Transfer
We charge at the 95th percentile


What the heck?

Hmm. I've seen all three of those methods used at different hosts, but never all three at the same host.

can only guess
but I would gather that if you are doing less than 50 gigs they will not charge you for upload and are making there money back on the package after this amount they have to make money as you are doing more than they expected
after 50-100 they figure you are using enough bandwith that they will charge you flat rate you may be running a file exchange or something and therefore you should be paying for upload bandwith and if you are not the upload portion is so low it will not really matter and you should be making some money off the site at that bandwith

after 100 gigs 95th percentile may work out to your advantage ?? ya never know depends on what kind of service you run but if if is basic web pages (under 100KB each) then this will be another way of doing there math
