View Full Version : Fed Up With Hostyard

After 2 days of downtime (site is still down too), I'm fed up with Hostyard. I understand you get what you pay for, yada yada yada but this length of downtime is unacceptable and makes it impossible to run a website.

I am now a 2MHost.com (http://www.2mhost.com/) customer and will be moving my site there as soon as Dylan gets off his behind and gets the servers back up so I can get a backup of my MySQL database. Hopefully he won't lose the data like in the past.

If you are thinking about Hostyard, I'd strongly recommend you evaluate your need for reliable servers. If you want a site you can depend on being up all the time--forget it. If you want an e-mail address you can give out and expect to be able to connect to it tomorrow--forget it. Look for something else.

I'll give everyone my thoughts on the new host when I get everything switched over, since I couldn't find anything here about them.

BTW, This looks like a great board, I'm looking forward to posting here! :)

tcmonica, why are you listed as living in the USA when your IP suggests you live in Toronto?

(interesting co-incidence that Netcoz.com is also located in Toronto, but I'm not assuming anything yet...)

Kevin - Looks like HostYard is back up. We're you able to get all your files back? I visited some of friends sites and all that was there was that apache page :(

From what i understand hostyard is having problems with just one of their servers, not all of them of course that one server might host 300 sites, so i can see where there would be a huge prob.

I think in the terms it says that it isnt really unlimited.
i think it says that as long as you dont use it excessively, otherwise, they will start limiting you.

True. Absolutely no host can provide unlimited bandwidth.

How would you know where his IP belongs to?

Because IPs are logged and visible here and can easily be looked up?

Know where to look them up at? I'm getting interested in this matter.

Actually, this user posted the same stuff on both here and SP. After I challenged him/her they've never returned.

Of course, we have to use the edict 'Innocent until proven guilty', not the other way around :D

To check IPs/whois I use SamSpade (http://www.samspade.org) and PingPlotter to check my results.

Anyways......... This is a bit off-topic - could we kindly please return to the original Hostyard topic. Danke :)

Andy, I would highly recommend Sam Spade (at http://www.samspade.org - there is a Windows GUI and an online component). You can also do lookups directly from a server with named services running, if you have shell access to one. If you just want to look up IPs from time to time, pop over to http://www.arin.net and do a WHOIS there. They also have links to RIPE and APNIC there at their site as well.

I almost decided to go to 2mhost..
I saw another one called : fireflyhosting..
they are reselling for donhost
but the best thing is they CAN offer that unlimited package..but they won't...Thats why I think they hold up so long for a reseller..

A friend of mine is on that host (http://www.xtreme-gaming.net)
and he said everything was ok!

I want no unlimited crap anymore.. I have been on serverals..AND THEY ARE CRAP!
One thing about unlimted host... I know 2 that are ok!
these are : Atomic Rhino and Edgenetwork
they are both to use for free... (with ads ofcourse)
and they are just OK!!!

so,... dont believe that unlimited crap..(if you want stuff about games. just get hsoted by edgenetwork)

gitaarwerk out :)
