Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and I wanted to get people's opinions on my hosting site. I have been running a server mainly as a hobby for a couple of years but now I've finished university I'm hoping to take it seriously and run a real business.

Since there are lots of people on here with a lot more experience than me what do people think of this :

I think my prices are fairly similar to what other people who are leasing servers in the USA are offering. What could I do to my site to improve my chances of making sales?

I'm not offended at all. I came here for peoples' opinions. :D

My web design skills aren't very good and I always have trouble getting colour coordination right. I always use either black text on white background or vice versa because its the one colour scheme that always seems to look okay (to me at least). If I try to change it I think I'll end up making it look worse. I guess once I've got some money I could pay a real web designer to make a new layout for me.

Any other issues?

This is why I have always been too chicken to ask for a site review myself. Some things I would do with your site.

The quick and dirty:

The sentence on your home page that begins "With experience of" just sounds akward to me. And frankly I would do away with at least the first two paragraphs.

Instead of the first paragraph I would bullet (or something) the services you offer. In place of the second I would produce a "network" page that discussed the datacenter, server etc...

I would at least rename the "other services" button something more descriptive like "server security" or "intrusion detection" and group it with the "research" link.

You need a teaser to get people to link through and check out your hosting plans.

I would offer links to outside security research, RSS feeds on related topics, stories about people getting hosed by not taking care, etc...

Offer your email accounts under a more generic domain, or tie it to your domain service and let people pick there own.

The big picture:

With three separate services on one site, your homepage should be more of a portal with links to separate "home" pages for hostings, security and software engineering.

And yes, I would ditch the black too.

use Header & Footer on your 2CO payment page to make it look like part of your website ( a little bit )

and yes, black is not good as most hackers, warez, porn sites have black background IMHO.

Ditch the black
Add 2CheckOut headers and footers
Have a script written that'll collect info from the user before sending them to 2CheckOut. It might just be me, but I don't order anything where the first thing I have to enter is my CC number, makes me thik they want me to pay and be done with it...

Thanks for all the advice. I'll make some changes over the next few days.
